Me trying to avoid Logan isa sad thought.I’ll have to though. It makes sense to.I don’t know how else I would get anything done.Either I’d feel guilty about the past, bad that he hates me, or like shit because he has to help me.

That brings me to my next question.

“I’m assuming Logan isn’t a marine anymore, is he?There’s no way he could be available for six months to help me if he were.”

The saddened look that washes over Bree's face suggests she’s going to tell me something that I’ll find difficult to hear.

“No, he’s not. He got shot, and it was pretty bad.”

My lungs constrict and my heart seizes in my chest like someone wrapped a tight fist around it.

“Oh my God.” I breathe out. That was my worst fear. When I first left, I used to worry myself sick that I’d hear he was killed. My nerves were bad enough before I left, but leaving on such bad terms was awful.

“Yeah. There’s a lot I probably should bring you up to speed on.He’s okay now, but he wasn’t. He came home two years ago and started a PI agency, which he runs himself.”

“Wow.”

“Yeah, and he’s doing well too.My salon isn’t that far from Logan’s place.Business took off in no time and he does a lot of work for Ethan, who’s now a cop.”

My eyes turn to saucers. “Ethan, who went to juvie twice before he was sixteen, is a cop?”

“Uh huh.”

“Ethan, who stole a cash machine and drove a police car into the river?” I have to clarify because I’m so shocked.

“One and the same, darlin. Like a born again Christian, except he didn’t get baptized.I’m pretty sure he'd need the good Lord himself to give him a good dip, but yes, the man is a cop.And not just any old cop too, he’s a detective.”

My gosh, things really have changed.

“Of course, he and Logan are still as thick as thieves,” she adds.“And as you know from my crazy talk last night, Bryce became a lawyer, and Denver got signed as the newest quarterback to the L.A Gladiators.”

I already knew about Denver. Riley was heavily into football.

“There really is a lot I have to bring myself up to speed on.”

Just then the door to the diner opens and my gaze goes straight to the blond bombshell from the funeral who was glued to Logan’s arm.

She sees me too, and the look she gives me is just as scathing.

Bree follows my stare and cringes, then we both watch her tap her way toward the opposite side of the diner.

Before she sits, she glances over her shoulder at me and flicks her hair.

“And that’s my competition,” Bree says under her breath.

“Competition? In what way?”

“The new salon in town is her.Well, she’s not new anymore. Been here a little over a year and as you can see, she’s very glamorous.”

“I do see. Given the dirty looks she gives me every time she sees me, I don't think she likes me very much.”

“That’s because she’s a bitch.”

A bitch who’s seeing Logan and would love the title of being his girlfriend. That means they’re together in some way and knowing Logan, I doubt she just hooks up for biscuits and tea.

What am I getting myself into?

I’m sure at some point our paths will cross, and like everyone else she must know who I am, and probably who I was.As in who I was to Logan.
