“Oh my God, tell me.”

She does, and she takes my mind off everything for a few hours.

She tells me how a retired country singer proposed to her after she worked for him as a nanny. Then she tells me about Bryce who seems to be just as much of an asshole as he ever was.

We talk until late and she leaves with the promise of meeting up for lunch tomorrow before I fly out.

I actually fall asleep and wake up with my alarm instead of the broken sleep I'm usedto.

The restful sleep makes me feel refreshed and ready to face theday.

It was probably the universe’s way of arming me for seeing Logan again as I pushed the door open to Lilly’s attorney’soffice.

Mr. Mulligan is sitting behind his desk, and Logan is in front ofhim.

Both turn their attention to me and I wonder what is about tohappen. As far as I was concerned, this meeting was just supposed to include me and Mr.Mulligan.

Obviouslynot.

Quinn

On the scale of all things awkward, I give this situation here a ten.

Ten being most awkward ever, and I would have preferred to get some sort of heads up letting me know Logan would be here.

“Good morning,” I say, acknowledging both of them.

While Logan gives me a tight lipped smile, Mr. Mulligan’s face breaks out into something pleasant and welcoming that reminds me of Aunt Lilly. It suits that he would be her lawyer.Anybody she knew carried the same sort of warmth she had.

“Good morning, Ms.… am I okay to call you Ms. Cambray yet?” Mr. Mulligan asks as if there isn’t enough tension in the room.He doesn’t seem to mean any harm, though. It’s not his fault my life is so complicated.

“You can call me Quinn.” My divorce won’t be finalized for another few weeks.I don’t want to be Ms. Anything or Mrs. Langford because I shouldn’t have been married to Riley in the first place, and I don’t want the reminder.

“Thank you, Quinn. If you could just take a seat, we’ll begin this meeting.” He waves his hand toward the empty chair next to Logan.

I make my way over and sit, very aware of Logan’s presence next to me.His wide powerful shoulders are practically brushing against mine and the musky masculine scent of his cologne stirs all my secret places to life.

“I’m sure you must both be wondering why I’ve arranged this joint meeting with you,” Mr. Mulligan adds.

“Yes,” Logan answers for the both of us and the edge in his tone is enough to let me know he’s not exactly thrilled to see me.

That’s fine, in a few more hours I’ll be out of here.It will be like I never came back.

“This section of Lilly’s will deals with the assets Lilly wanted both of you to have.”

Logan and I briefly exchange glances.

“What kind of assets?” I ask.

“You’ll see.” Mr. Mulligan replies.

He clears his throat as he reaches for a plastic bound folder and opens it.When he lifts his head and looks from me to Logan, my stomach tightens.

“Lilly has left the lake house and the surrounding land to the both of you in equal parts.”

“What?” My mouth falls open.

“She left both of us the house?” Logan asks.
