“Oh, Logan,” I breathe and sink back into the warmth and safety of his arms.“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, baby.”

It’s been so long since I felt safe.

It seems to be something I needed too as part of the healing process because I feel like something has changed in me.Healed in me.

I almost feel like myself again.

Like Quinn Cambray before the darkness took over.

Logan

“What have you got for me?” I ask Ethan, making my way into the study so we can have a little more privacy to talk.

I press the phone to my ear as Ethan sighs, and I hope that sigh doesn’t mean we have more shit to worry about.

“Not a lot, Logan.”

I’m not sure what’s worse. Not having any information or knowing what Riley is up to.

Ethan has a P.I in L.A checking up on Riley. That was the plan we came up with.Right now we don’t have anything to hold him.

Well… not anything I can use without breaking Quinn’s trust.Ethan doesn’t know what I know either.I was true to my word and kept my silence. What I want now is to find a way to get Riley’s ass for something else.I don’t care how long it takes me.I can’t have him scaring Quinn the way he has.

“What did you find out?” I ask.

“Right now he’s pissed about Colton and looking for him.”

“That bides us some time.”

“Yes. That’s what we want. Time and something to shake the nest. That way we can see what he’ll do next and hopefully be ready for it.At least Colton’s out of the picture though.”

“Yeah. It’s good we don’t have to worry about him.”

I had one of my guys tracking Colton and he surprisingly kept his promise.Colton not only left town but he got a flight to Italy as well. Now he’s staying in Tuscany under an alias.I was worried we’d done the wrong thing by letting him go.I didn’t want him running back to Riley to cause more problems. Now that I know Colton’s out of the picture, I was able to assure Quinn she didn’t have to worry about him.

“I think the best thing we can do now is to keep going as we are.If we see or hear anything suspicious, then we can act on it,” Ethan states.

“I agree. Maybe we’re okay to leave things in the hands of our P.I. I’ll still have someone on the lookout here though.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“Alright. That’s all I got for you.”

“Thanks, Ethan. I appreciate you helping.”

“Anytime bro. Catch you later.”

We hang up and I slip my phone into my back pocket.

I gaze out the window at the sun beaming down on the lake. The new day seems to have brought a feeling of peace with it I’d love to take solace in.However, it feels too much to me like the calm before a storm. That breath of tension where you don’t know what could happen or how to prepare, only that you must.

Right now the only thing we have on our side is the element of being vague. To Riley, it will look like his boy skipped out on him and there would have been a few days where he wouldn’t have had eyes on Quinn.I’m hoping me moving in with her will deter him.

I’ve been here for two days, and I’ve been so busy settling in that Ihaven’t allowed it to sink in that Quinn and I are living together.

She’s happy and if she’s happy I’m happy. We haven’t classed it as me actually living here.I purposely avoided the word because I didn’t want to freak her out.
