“Another homicide, it’s the sister of the two who were murdered the other week.So that shows we were right, and our guy can’t be guilty if he’s already in custody. Now we have to A: prove it and B: catch the real killer before he kills someone else.”

“Fuck.” Something like this happened once before. It was just after I got my business going and started working with the police.“Let me look into it. I’ll find Billy and talk to him.”

That would probably scare the shit out of the prick, so I need to be sure when I do that I won’t need anything else from him. These jerks usually disappear after one of my confrontations.

“That’s the other problem. Billy’s name came up in relation to a rape report.”

The instant I hear that warning bells go off in my head and I think of Quinn for a whole other reason, because she’s staying at the motel Billy was seen at.

“Rape report?”

“It apparently came in a few weeks ago.The victim called and left her name but didn’t want to follow through. The description matched Billy and guess who the victim was?”

“Who?”

“My latest homicide.”

“Jesus Christ, you’re kidding me.” This just keeps getting better and better.

“I wish I were. Now we also can’t find him.I had some officers check out his address and workplace. He hasn’t been seen since last week.”

Well, at least that means I might not have to worry about him hanging around the motel.

“Something’s missing here,” I state.

“Yeah, pretty much and the captain is still acting like a prick, worried we’ll get this wrong. We don’t have any evidence against Billy so there’s very little we can legally do.”

And that’s where I once again come in.“I have to find him.”

“Yes, but we need to proceed with caution.Logan, I need tact with this guy.I really think he knows something.Or… he might be the person we’re looking for.”

“Give me an hour and I’ll be on the streets.” This is unsettling.

“Cool man. I just need something I can use to bring him in for questioning, or better yet, lock his ass up.”

“If there’s something, I’ll find it.”

“I don't doubt that." He grins."So, what happened this morning to make it shit?I thought you went to the will reading.”

“I did.”

He smirks. “Did Lilly leave you something weird? You look like you’re about to breathe fire.”

I quickly rattle off the events of my morning and when I’m done my friend looks as surprised as I was when Mr. Mulligan first declared the news.

“Fuck me… Wow, Lilly. You are one clever old lady working your magic to what exactly…” Ethan’s voice trails off.“Reacquaint you and Quinn.?”

I flick my palms over. “Looks that way with the damn contract worded so that I specifically have to help. And six months?”

“I hear ya.”

I’m glad he understands.

“What did Quinn say?” he quirks a brow.

“Well, of course this interrupted her plans to leave tonight.” I can’t hide the sarcasm in my tone.

“Right. So she was going to leave and not say goodbye?” he gives me a cautious look, one he’s sported many times when the subject of Quinn came up.
