Logan laughs, but it’s not laughter of humor.“So if I want the million dollars and technically any proceeds from the sale of the house, I have to help Quinn?”
“Yes.”
“Great.”
Embarrassment prickles along my spine.I don’t really know what to say.Clearly, this is a problem because of me, and I get why.At the same time, I don’t exactly want to sit here and be made to feel like a pathetic leper.
“I’m sure you won’t have to do that much,” I state like I’ve already made up my mind on staying.“And I’m certain we’ll barely see each other if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I have better things to worry about than seeing you,” he snaps in that assholish way I used to hate.
“Well, it should be easy for you then,” I throw back.
All he does is give me a sharp stare.
“I’m gonna have to think about this,” Logan says to Mr. Mulligan, and I couldn’t feel worse.
I don’t know anyone who would need to think about an offer of a million dollars.Just Logan Savage, and it’s because of me.
“Of course,” Mr. Mulligan replies.“I expect both of you to think about it."
"Yes, even though I'm sure a million dollars would be like pocket change to one of us," Logan remarks, casting a glance at me.
He doesn't know I'm broke, but even when he knew me I wasn't some ditz with daddy's credit card.
"Since when is a million dollars ever been pocket change?" I challenge.
"I wouldn't know. I figure it's all the same to you socialite types."
My God he's making me sound like Paris Hilton or someone like that.
"I'm not a socialite." He looks at me with raised brows as if I said something ridiculous."You know I'm not like that."
"No, I'm afraid I don't know you."
I bite the inside of my lip as my heart slows.Of all the hurtful things anyone has ever said to me, that cut me deep.
He doesn't know me.
I guess I deserve that.
"Okay, let's take the focus back to the proposal," Mr. Mulligan cuts in seeing my momentary daze.
"I think that would be best," Logan agrees, sarcasm drippingfrom his words.
"Sure. The last thing I must make you aware of is, if either of you rejects the offer the inheritance will automatically transfer to the next person,” he explains.“Should you both accept we can discuss further arrangements in regard to the funds Lilly left to refurbish the house and cover the cost of hiring contractors and other staff you may need. How about I give you both until Friday to get back to me?I appreciate that massively interferes with your plans, Quinn, but I can’t have this outstanding indefinitely.”
“Friday will be fine,” I answer.
“Yeah,” Logan says.
“It might be an idea to go see the property,” Mr. Mulligan suggests and raises one bushy brow.“And maybe get together and talk outside this meeting.”
“Okay,” I agree.
“Are we done here?” Logan asks and when Mr. Mulligan nods he gets up and walks out.
And just like that, he’s gone.
