Maybe I am healing.
It would be nice.
Chapter 40
Quinn
The ends of my hair lift in the breeze as we step outside the restaurant and into the cool night air.
My mouth is still burning from the scorching hot peppers Logan dared me to eat.I don’t know why I was crazy enough to accept the dare. But then it was the same when we were younger.
He’d dare me to do the most ridiculous things, and I’d do it because I’d take any opportunity to speak to him.
The daring games then turned into truth or dare, then that changed into sins or secrets. The latter seems fitting for the years that have flown by because they were full of both.
“Remind me not to accept anymore dares from you,” I giggle as he takes my hand and tugs me toward the pier.
The moonlight dances on his handsome face making his teeth look whiter when he smiles.
“You love them really.” He laughs.“Besides your face when you’re eating peppers and that sound you make is very similar to what you look like after a wild session with me.”
I gasp. “Oh my God, is that why you did it?”
“Yes, of course.”
I shake my head at him. “You are so mean. Why would you do that on our first date?”
“So I can make it up to you on the second and third dates.”
I smile liking this. “I see, and I like that plan, but I’m not having any more peppers.”
“Duly noted. Come walk with me, baby.”
We head down to the boardwalk and stop by the barrier separating us from the deepest end of the sea.In the daytime, the whole area is packed with people fishing because this is the section where you get the best catch of the day.The other side of the pier is off-limits to preserve the fish in that area and more for people who want to swim around and play on the beach.
“So, are you looking forward to teaching next week?” he asks.
“I am. It’s going to be the first time that I would have had the chance to really teach the way I want.”
“What about your job in L.A?”
“It wasn’t the same. I was there one day a week, and I taught the babies and under-eights.There’s a massive difference, believe me.Not that I don’t like teaching them, I’m just an all rounded dance teacher.” I explain.“I barely had the chance to perform, but at least I had the chance.Dancing with the New York City ballet was a dream on its own I would have loved to pursue but there’s no point dwelling on what could have been.”
“Well, you’re about to get the chance to do what you wanted to do.” He nods.“And all of Lilly’s students signed up.”
“They did.” Every last one of them.“ And, I never had a problem, not like when I was in L.A. I was so embarrassed when I was asked to leave the school because of Dad.I didn’t like working there but it was something.Nobody here seemed to care about that. They were more than happy to have me teach them.I spoke to a few of the moms and they were intrigued with my experience and abilities. And that all that I am began with Lilly.”
“That’s what you want. Lilly was one hell of a woman.”
“She was.”
“The dream she had can live on with you.”
“I hope so.”
“It will Quinn, it’s already happening. You get to do her summer school and I’m sure doing so will prepare you for whatever you get in New York.” He sounds confident, but there’s a dullness in his eyes that catches my attention.
It was at the mention of New York.
