And yes, there were times when Ryan wasn't always mature when it came to women. He wasn't like Logan, who had put his one-night stands behind him, lived in the suburbs, and had a long-term girlfriend. Instead, Ryan went to the bars after a tough game to have a few drinks with the boys and take a girl home. That's what young hockey players did.

But he had Lucy now. There would be more nights together, so many more nights. Because there was something about Lucy, something he couldn't quite explain about how he felt when he was with her, that he just knew he didn't want it to be the end. He didn't want to chase her away the next morning and not see her again.

That was all for later though. He wanted to get home, get some sleep, maybe go grocery shopping to get this weekly diet from Andy on track.

"Anything else I need?" Ryan asked the trainer as he hopped off the training table.

"Not from me," he said. "But Sydney wanted me to remind you that it's anX-Filesbinge night."

"What's that about?" Logan asked.

"Sydney and I are trying to get through season seven ofThe X-Filesbefore the hockey season starts," Ryan explained. "She gets antsy when we're on the road and can't watch."

"Sydney? As in Andy's girlfriend?"

"Yeah."

Logan laughed at him. "So you're hanging out with Andy's woman and you have a lawyer on the side."

"Sydney is my neighbor and my friend, and she has a boyfriend—"

"Fiancé," Logan corrected him.

Ryan turned to Andy and gave him a lopsided smile. "Fiancé."

"Thank you."

"So I'm never sleeping with her."

Ryan tried to emphasis the "never" part, especially around Andy. Not only was he Sydney's fiancé, but he also had a previous girlfriend cheat on him with the team's goalie who was traded over the summer for so many reasons that had nothing to do with Ryan or Andy. It also led to a misunderstanding when Andy and Sydney first started dating that made things awkward for awhile. But as Ryan always liked to remind them, he fixed that problem. (He really didn't, but he wasn't going to ever admit that.)

"I do have to give Ryan credit," Andy said. "Sydney loves watching shows that I don't so he's technically doing me a favor."

"And just to clarify," Ryan said. "I don't have the lawyer on the side."

Andy stared at him. "Really?" he asked skeptically.

"Really."

"Huh."

Ryan squared his shoulders and put his hands on his hips. "What's the 'huh' for?"

Andy kind of shrugged and turned back to his box. "I just didn't realize it was that serious."

"Well, it is…that serious," he stammered.

"You're still too young to be serious with someone smart like a lawyer," Logan said.

Ryan just sighed and rolled his eyes. "I'm perfectly capable of holding my own with a smart lawyer."

"OK, rookie," Logan replied sarcastically.

"Anything else?"

Andy was still quietly digging through the box, obviously trying to look distracted so he wouldn't have to be involved in this conversation anymore. And Logan seemed to be getting the hint that he had exhausted his ability to tease Ryan about Lucy. For now. There was more of that to come. And there were other topics to discuss anyway.

"Make sure you work on that shot before Birdie gets here," Logan said.
