“It matters little.”
“Your ignorance is staggering.” Ohngel yanked her gown back into place. Gahya gaped at him, no doubt shocked by his rejection of her plump charms. “Why do your Aeternals prefer feeding from Gabriel’s creatures rather than from their own kind?”
“Human blood, soul, and emotion are apparently sweeter. Addictive, I hear.”
“Still, you offer no guidance.”
“My beings are adrift in weaknesses of their own making. I shouldn’t have to teach them everything.”
Ohngel drew his brows tight, his wings snapping out to block the everlasting sun of the Vast, his blaze brighter, hotter than the glowing orb. “So, you plan to pit them against humans? May the best species win. The OneCreator challenged you to create sentient beings. You did, but they are flawed and adrift. In punishment, he steals their immortality. Now, he lures you into another bet when he could just kill them with a moment’s thought.”
“Such is not his way. Besides, if I win this new wager, my creatures will prevail.”
“He is playing with you while, at the same time, he taunts Gabriel.”
“I will win. Whose side are you on, Ohngel?”
“I do not take sides. Nor am I his flunky as Gabriel is, but I will not be yours either. I will never favor the slaughter of these new humans despite my partiality for your creatures. Perhaps I will draw up a stratagem of my own.”
“Beware. In that direction lies danger. The OneCreator will not be pleased with your interference. Heed my advice. Learn when to let go.”
“Letting go is not my strength. I am a stubborn bastard with a strong libido who also has a problem with authority.”
“I have entertainment planned for tonight.”
At the mention of sexual fun, his cock ached. He was easily distracted, and it had proved useless to convince Gahya of her duty to her dying creations. So be it.
“Rota the Norn and Zephyrus the Boread will join us in a diversion.”
“Your never-ending creativity intrigues me, Gahya.”
“Our proclivities must be kept fresh.”
“Where are your guests?”
“In the spare chamber.”
Ohngel took her hand and flashed them into the lavish bedroom decorated in heavy red and black brocades, a boudoir designed for sensual pleasures. His gaze focused on what awaited in the bed, but his attention was divided, an incipient plan forming in his mind.
Rota and Zeph lay naked, enjoying each other, their hands stroking willing flesh, their lustful sighs filling the room. Ohngel’s nostrils flared with the scent of erotic pleasures as his tongue swept across his lower lip. He raised Gahya’s hand, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “Such a treat.”
The Genitrix’s eyes lit with passion’s fire. She truly was a creature who thrived on carnal games, almost childlike, without compassion, without love, and without a conscience. He stroked her cheek.
Stripped of her robe, her flesh a creamy glow, Gahya crawled onto the bed where she caressed Rota’s breast with the palm of her hand. Pinching a nipple between her fingers, she lowered her head to draw it into her mouth. The Norn moaned, her arched back pleading for more.
Ohngel approached the bed, his palm caressing Zeph’s thigh. “So lovely.” Suddenly, he stepped away. “But I think tonight I will decline.”
Gahya made a popping sound as she released Rota’s breast. “What?”
Disappointment shadowed the Norn and Boread’s faces, legs untwisting as they pushed upright. Ohngel spun away from the bed, his blazing wings snapping wide to take him soaring through the open ceiling, his plan already solidifying.
Celene snapped the book shut. The story was interesting, but she was tired. Flinging her arms out, palms up, she closed her eyes, her spirit as soul-weary as Ohngel.
Her mental clock ticked off minutes. More minutes.
Her eyelids flicked open. “Fuck this shit.” Celene bounced out of bed, rushing to the kitchen to get a knife. In front of the bathroom mirror, she chopped off hunks of her long, tangled blonde hair. She donned shorts, a sports bra, and sneakers before striding toward the exercise equipment where she snatched two ten-pound weights. With one in each hand, she curled her arms.
Today ten, next week twenty.
