Clearing her throat, Indigo said, “That wasinteresting. I guess no one liked my idea. I know a lot ofFirebrands would be happy to boff a bunch of humans. A prophet inher own land and all that crap. I’m outta here. See ya, bro.”

Alarik nodded.

“What do you think, doll?” Ram stared atDenim.

“I need some time to deal. Destiny shitdoesn’t sit well with me.”

Back in their apartment atthe stronghold, Rein made it clear he didn’t want to talk about anydestiny crap. “What do you think he’ll do?” Rein figured Braelynknew who the “he” was.

“I think he’ll do the right thing.” Shesnuggled into Rein’s solid chest, letting her fingers roam freelyunder his T-shirt, along his pads of muscle and on to the ridges ofhis abdomen.

“If Miller gives us the right names, we haveto tell him they’re safe with us in the stronghold.”

“It’s only fair. If he names humans not withus, it means Cerberus might have them.”

Rein shivered. Destiny had no hand in makingBraelyn’s touch stir his erection into action.

He believed in an individual’s will. Willhad pulled him from the abyss of the bludfrenzy. Will had made hima strong Firebrand. Will had allowed Brae to survive the Bludhuntmating ceremony. Destiny was for fools.

Rein snatched Braelyn off the couch andthrew her over his shoulder, ass up where he could smack it.

“Where are we going?” She rotated her neckuntil she was talking to the back of his head.

“To take a shower. I’m going to make sureyou’re clean. Very clean.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

Ram sprawled on Denim’s couchat the stronghold while she paced the room. “What’s rolling aroundin your head?”

“What if you don’t really want me atall?”

Ram pointed to the bulge in his pants. “Ido.”

“Not that way. You’re a satyr. Galena saidyou have a hard-on for every female.” She paused her back and forthto lob the slam. It may, however, have been somewhat deserved.

“While it’s kind of her to notice my junkand where I’m putting it, she might have exaggerated a bit.”

“If this is about destiny, you would havegotten stiff for any descendant who showed up.”

“I saw Braelyn. I saw Margo. I saw Skyler.Hell, I saw Nico. Nothing. At least, nothing which made my cocktwitch.”

“But this was all so easy, so fast. I meanus and… You know.”

Ram’s brows raised as Denim lifted his legsto sit. “What was so easy? You? Damn, female. We have differentideas of easy. Easy would have had your hand down my pants thefirst time I saw you at the Shed. You would have dragged me to abackroom. Or you would have done me right there on the couch. Youwould have unzipped me, wrapped your sweet lips around my dick, andfucked me with your mouth all to some heavy beat rap. I don’t needto remind you none of that happened. Sure, you squeezed me a littlebecause you were pissed and going for the shock effect. Now, howabout being easy for a change?”

He swung his feet to the floor and pulledDenim onto his lap, crushing her lips with his mouth. His dick wasstraining to get out of his pants, rubbing against her tight ass.But he had something else to clear up before his joystick tookover. “What we feel, what I feel, isn’t just sex, Denim.”

She tangled her hands in his long hair.“Really?”

“Really. But I’m still a fuck-up.” Ramwasn’t ready to say more. He was a shitty catch.

Denim sighed, pulling Ram in for a gentlekiss. When she opened for his tongue, he thrust inside, hungry. Inand out, he savored the hot, wet feel of her. Each plunge filledthe air with the scent of her arousal. His fingers grasped thebottom of her shirt, ripping it over her head.

Ram paused, his eyes feasting on the lacybra hidden under the not-so-sexy shirt. “Damn. You arebeautiful.”

He leaped up with Denim bouncing in his armsand sprinted for her bedroom.
