Lana was close to him, and he thought he saw recognition in her eyes. Perhaps she was feeling a touch of remorse about the turn this evening had taken as well.

"Fine," she relented, letting out a sigh. "I admit it was the wrong choice of words. But if ye are going to start breakin' the rules before we get married, ye need to find better reasons for it."

"Fine," Daniel echoed.

It was as close to an apology as he could muster, but Lana seemed to accept it. They even shared a small smile, both a bit sheepish about their fight.

As they looked at each other, Daniel saw something soften in Lana's eyes, and then, almost imperceptible, she stepped forward.

The air between them became heated again, and he felt the same crackling tension he had felt in her brother's hall. He remembered the way he had pulled her to him, the soft skin of her neck beneath his lips.

"If we are talking of breakin' rules," he whispered, bringing his mouth dangerously close to her ear, "then there are better rules we could be breakin'…"

He heard her let out the smallest gasp and saw her eyes darken with desire as his warm breath teased her ear. When he pulled back to look at her, he smirked as her eyes locked onto his lips, a silent request. But he wouldn't give in so easily.

He put a hand on her waist and felt the warmth of her curves, saw the blush that bloomed across her nose and cheeks. He slid his hand behind her back and felt her lean into him even as she turned her face up, locking eyes with him.

"Daniel," she breathed.

It was the first time he heard her use his name. It sent a thrill through him, and he yanked her forward so his hips ground against hers. She gasped again, and then her eyes were fixed on his mouth again.

Daniel waited, wanting her to say the words.

"Kiss me," she whispered.

Lana felt desperate for him, all rules and decorum forgotten. She didn't know how she could be so swayed by a man's touch. She had never thought herself the type. But now, standing in Daniel's arms, she was almost giddy with his proximity.

"Kiss me."

As her request slipped out of her mouth, Daniel smirked at her, clearly pleased. She remembered her dream and the way she always begged him to kiss her, but she didn't feel ashamed. She could only wait, desperate to know if he would follow her request.

"Would ye like that?" he whispered in her ear.

Her breath caught in her throat as he said the very words she imagined in her daydream. And then his lips lightly brushed against the underside of her jaw.

Lana leaned into him, desperate to feel his touch.

"Aye," she whispered.

She turned her head, trying to bring her lips closer to his, but with a deep chuckle, Daniel pulled away. She saw the glint in his eye as he enjoyed teasing her.

"Now who is forgettin' the rules?" he asked.

Before Lana could answer, his mouth dipped down to her neck. He began kissing her, a mix of tongue and lips that she couldn't figure out. She could only give in to the pleasure. And then, even more shocking, his hand moved up to gently cup her breast. Desire shot through her, sending shockwaves deep into her core.

Lana moaned, unable to contain herself, as his hand fondled and squeezed her breast.

"But we cannae forget the rules, can we, wife?"

She heard the word through a fog of pleasure. She had to force herself through, as if she were swimming underwater and finally pushing herself back to the surface.

"I am nae yer wife," she countered.

Daniel dropped his hands and stepped back from her. Her chest was heaving, pressing against the neckline of her dress, as she regarded him. She felt cold without him, and it took all she had not to beg him to come back to her.

"Of course," Daniel whispered.
