Rayna

Dominic:

I do not like this.

Being apart from you this long is entirely wrong.

Rayna:

Dominic…it’s 10am

I’ve been gone less than 2 hours

Rayna knew Dominic had every intention of stripping her naked and having his way with her when she went home that afternoon. It wouldn’t happen immediately, but there was nothing in all of Neves that was going to stop it from happening tonight.

There’d been a constant awareness of that knowledge, teasing her skin as she’d worked on the letters in the museum with the curators. It’d remained at the back of her mind mostly, but it fed her arousal with a constant supply of shameless ideas. What she wanted to do to Dominic, how she wanted to corrupt him, the way she wanted him to fuck her so damn thoroughly.

It shocked her how intensely the aching sensation spiked the moment she laid eyes on him again when she returned to the farmhouse. It wasn’t like her. Almost disgustingly embarrassing too, that just the sight of him made her wet and hot. But excitement outweighed her disdain that a man had that much control over her body.

Because she had equal control over his too.

And bloody woods, Dominic was terrible at hiding it. Every needy, possessive thought unravelled in his dilated pupils like an endless scroll for her to read. It was going to cause a problem if they were to successfully hide their involvement, but shecouldn’t find it in her to be mad at him when it fed her feminine pride like nothing ever had before.

But that lust in his eyes was replaced by horror when Ash sat Dominic down at the dining table and opened up his medical case.

“Are we done now?” Dominic asked as Ash slipped two vials of blood into a small clear bag.

If Dominic had been standing rather than seated, Rayna was entirely sure he would have been swaying on his feet, about to pass out at the sight of his own blood. Or maybe it was the process of having his blood drawn that was creeping him out, because he kept glancing nauseously at the hollow of his elbow where he held a blob of cotton wool to ebb the small amount of bleeding.

“Almost,” Ash replied, laying the bag into a slot in his case.

“You have poked and prodded every inch of my body with all your contraptions. What more could you possibly need to do?” Dominic grumbled.

Ash offered him a new, empty vial. “You need to urinate in this.”

From the seat opposite, Rayna got to watch the cartoonish way Dominic’s jaw rolled open.

He quickly bristled. “I beg your finest pardon. I need to what?”

Kelly hooted, and Dominic whipped an embarrassed glare in her direction where she was curled up against River on the fabric sofa. River dropped his head, trying to curb the grin playing hide-and-seek on his face. Even Ash’s professional demeanour cracked. His mouth twitched, and ruby-red eyes glittered with laughter.

“I need a urine sample,” Ash said again.

“Whyever would you bloody need that?”

“To run tests on.”

Ash waved the vial closer to Dominic, but he shrank away like there was pee already in it.

“I’m so glad we stayed,” Kelly muttered through a laughing sigh and wiped the corners of her eyes. “This is the best Thursday night entertainment ever. It’s almost as funny as watching you fail to jump the bridge inJungle Rumblefor like an hour.”

Dominic’s jaw locked as his cheeks pinkened. He shot daggers at her with all the exasperation of an older sibling, then turned his scowl to Rayna with a tilt of his chin.

See this? This is what you left me to deal with, his eyes silently complained.

Apparently, Kelly had been teaching Dominic to play computer games, but his failure to grasp the controls on the keyboard had created a rift in their friendship. All because Kelly had been in stitches every time Dominic had accused the game of being at fault for his struggles.

“Go pee in the bottle, Dominic,” she said, nodding a grin towards the archway.
