Aargon can make me laugh more than anyone. Most of the time it is intentional. Dry humor always hits its mark with me. Tonight, I have nearly peed my pants three times.

“Okay, back to the game.”

A dirty look is sent my way.

“When is this thing going to end? I hope it happens before the alcohol poisoning kills us. The EMTs would get a laugh finding MC Hammer and Jennifer Aniston dead.”

“The game cannot be rushed! But maybe we should move around a little. Here. I’ll put it on pause. Get up!”

“Quit bossing me around. Damn, you can be an annoying broad sometimes.”

“What? You part of Sinatra’s crew or something?”

If he knew my family’s nickname for me wasThe Boss,he’d never let it go.

“That might work on Todd or Rod, or whatever the latest guy your seeing’s name is. As for me, I’ll sit my ass down as long as I want.”

“First of all, we’re not a thing anymore. And his name was Taylor. Where did you get Todd or Rod?”

“He looked like a Rod.”

“He was nice. I liked him a lot.”

He sees right through the exaggeration.

“Then why did you end it? He was never gonna be your guy. Wrong type.”

“Oh! Now you know my type more than I do?”

“That’s right. I think I do. You’re easy to read, and I have been paying attention. You need someone that can balance you, not someone who is intimidated by your…okay I am going to use a word here. Light. Your light.”

This pleases me more than expected. I was ready to fight a friendly insult with another one aimed at him not having enough dates to have a type. But no one ever said I had a light.

“Thank you. I do have a little light, don’t I?” Eyes roll, and he immediately regrets the choice of words.

“Maybe that isn’t quite the word. Energy. That’s it. A guy could be overwhelmed with it.”

“Why didn’t you stop when you were ahead? Light’s better.”

Moving carefully to the Alexa, I lean on the counter, calling to her.

“Alexa, shuffle my playlist, 90’s Jams!”

“Shuffling 90’s Jams.”

Aargon chuckles, then knits dark eyebrows together.

“It isn’t a microphone, Boomer. You don’t have to bend over so it hears you.”

“Boomer? For your information...”

I forget the point I was about to make.

“Yes?”

“I was going to say something brilliant. Can’t think of it now.”

I reach out a hand, waving fingers calling him forward.
