Really smiles.

“Damn it, Ivy. I love you.”

I can’t help my own smile, but before I can say another word, he dips down, slinging me over his shoulder, and strides toward the bedroom.

Chapter forty-six

Maddox

Our shedded clothes cover my bedroom floor while Ivy’s beautiful hair is fanned out over my pillow. Her big green eyes peer up at me as I climb up her naked body, my own eyes drinking in every delicate curve. Soft fingertips glide up my chest, and I drop my lips down to meet her collarbone. Legs parting, she opens herself up so I can settle between her hips, my leaking cock pressing against her hot skin.

A moan slips past her mouth when I lower, bringing her nipple between my teeth.

“Maddox. Please.” Her breaths are choppy, and I lift my head to peer into her hooded eyes as I line myself up. Last time wedid this, it was rushed. It was hard and fast. What we did was pure fucking. But tonight, I don’t want to justfuckIvy Mayson. I want toloveher.Make loveto her. Show her exactly how much I missed her. How long I’ve waited for her.

Her soft gasp at the pressure makes me twitch against her, and my hands grip the sheets as I steady myself. This woman has no idea that I haven’t been able to be with anyone else. Not since her. Not since that night. I’ve been able to fly under the radar. Use work as an excuse for my busy days and lonely nights. But the truth is I didn’t want anyone else. I only wantedher. And if it wasn’t her. It was no one.

Slowly, I slide inside of her, our gazes locked, the world disappearing around us. It’s always been that way when we were together. Everything else just fades away. She stretches around me, her legs wrapping around my waist with our foreheads coming together. My lips hover above hers as I seat myself fully inside of her. Her tight grip has me fighting back a curse.I’m about to embarrass myself. With a calculated movement, I pull out, just to thrust back in as deep as I can. Her throaty gasp fills the room, and when I feel her grin against my mouth, I press a kiss to her parted lips.

"I love you." The words are murmured against her, and I spent the rest of the night showing her just how much.

“Morning.” Aiden walks into the barn just as I’m finishing up the white board.

“Morning.” I snap the cap back on the dry erase marker and toss it in the bin.

The confession Ivy shared with me a few nights ago moves to the front of my mind, and part of me feels like shit for Aiden.Part of me feels like shit for Ruthie. And the other part is so damn disappointed in Emmett. But I know first-hand about hurting someone I love. Not in the same capacity, but still in the vicinity of self-sabotage.

“You see how Wizard is filling out?” He asks, adjusting his cowboy hat.

“I have.” I grin. “Size wise he might beat out Havoc.”

“Maybe.” He shrugs. “He’s already mean as shit.” He grabs a pair of leather work gloves. “Catch you later.”

He leaves the barn out the back exit, and as I’m turning back to the board, movement at the entrance has my eyes shifting. I’m surprised to see Emmett standing at the edge of the open barn.

“You supposed to be out here?” I ask.

He chuckles. “Shep, I’ve got three women up my ass right now telling me what to do. I don’t need you to join in.”

Laughing, we meet halfway through the alleyway, and I grip him in a hug. Emmett may have made some mistakes, but at the end of the day he was the only other father figure I’ve ever known. I wasn’t happy about the position he put Ivy in, but it wasn’t my place to bring it up. Not until they handled things between them, which I’m assuming hasn't been done yet.

Emmett pulls away, crossing his arms over his chest. “Cooper and Ryder will be here in a minute.”

I can tell by the look in his eyes he has something on his mind. A few minutes later Cooper and Ryder show up, all of us aware of what’s at stake.

Ryder shakes my hand, his eyes showing dark circles like he hadn’t slept in days. Cooper slaps my shoulder before we circle up.

“What’s on your mind, dad?” Ryder asks.

Emmett pulls a can of Copenhagen from his back pocket, taking a pinch between his fingers before stuffing it in his lip. “Rocky Bernard is trying to fuck with my ranch.” He shoves thecan back in his pocket. “He’s been sniffing around for months. I’m almost certain that bacteria that took out half the herd last winter was him. Had no proof.”

“We should have taken care of him when he was here,” Ryder growls.

“When was he here?” Emmett asks.

“Morning after the fire. Showed up saying he wanted to check on his neighbors.” Cooper scoffs. “Like he gives a shit. All he cares as about is money and he’ll do anything to get it.”

“We sent him packing.” I shift on my boots. “Said some things to Ivy I didn’t like.”
