“No. We kept it vague. We only mentioned your first name and from Atlanta. Nothing specific. But these days, people can find all kinds of info. And I just want you to be prepared.”
“I talked to Del last week about how to deal with anyone that may approach me. He gave me some pointers. Plus, you know Aidan. He’ll make sure nothing happens.”
Relief floods through me knowing Aidan is there not only for Charley but also Megan.
“Good, that makes me feel better.”
“I got this. You go do your big shot broadcasting stuff.”
She squares her shoulders with a little shimmy of her chest. I keep my eyes on her face.
Mostly. I didn’t notice her nipples through her tank top at all.
I don’t have a case of raging blue balls and an ache in my chest either.
“Yes, ma’am,” I say with a smile. “I’ll be home next week.”
“I’ll be watching the game so don’t be one of those cheesy commentators, okay?”
I laugh. “I would never.”
She smiles. “Good night, Nate.”
“Night, Charley.”
We disconnect and a few seconds later, my phone pings.
Charley: I miss you.
My eyes slide closed and I rub my hand over my chest where my heart pounds. With those three words, it solidifies the one thing I know.
I am so fucked.

Megan: Okay…sounds serious. What did you decide?
Me: This baby is staying in my belly for the rest of my life.
Megan: *thinking emoji*
Megan: I don’t think that’s how it works.
Me: That’s just too bad. It’s staying up in this oven.
Megan: What brought this on?
Me: I’m reading this baby book and it’s talking about the ways to deliver.
Megan: Okay…*shrugging emoji*
Me: MEGAN, THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS THIS BABY CAN COME OUT!!
Megan: I need more info.
