“Mine?”
“Yeah, you know bars, and I need help with mine.”
“Okay. What kind of help do you need?”
He chews, his face thoughtful. “Where the best place would be to put the main bar, table placement for best traffic flow, things like that.”
His eyes meet mine, and a smile lifts one side of his mouth. “My contractor asked me questions the other day and I had no idea what to tell him.”
“You don’t have a consultant?”
“I tried a couple but they weren’t right.” He glances at my computer. “But if you’ve got plans or work to do, don’t worry about it.”
“No, I don’t mind helping.”
He smiles and my insides melt. “Great. Just come to my office when you’re ready. I can show you the blueprints.”
“Okay.”
I head upstairs to dress, prep for my call, and—much to my dismay—count the minutes until I get to spend time with Nate again.
* * *
After my call wraps,I type up notes before heading to Nate’s office.
“I like that smile on your face. Your call went well?”
I walk into his lair and take a seat.
The room’s refined, but not stuffy, cozy with a fireplace in the corner, and screams man with its dark-brown woods and blue-gray painted built-ins.
It suits the man behind the desk well.
“Yeah, it was. The couple is throwing a surprise wedding. Telling everyone they’re having an engagement party, but it will actually be a wedding.”
He smiles. “If anyone can knock someone off their feet, it’s you, Firefly.”
Our eyes hold and I don’t think we’re talking about surprise weddings anymore.
He clears his throat and looks at the sleek monitor in front of him. “Did you know at fourteen weeks, Nugget is the size of a peach right now?”
“Do you look up baby facts all the time?”
“Of course.”
As though it’s a foregone conclusion.
My heart flutters in my chest, and I swear my ovaries want to explode. Something about this man looking up baby facts gives me all the feels.
And I don’t need to have those feelings.
“Of course, silly me. What else does it tell you?”
“Nugget should have all its major organs now and be developing reflexes. It also says you should be getting more energy soon so you should exercise, and your clothes may be getting tight.”
I run a hand over my still mostly flat belly. “Yeah, pretty soon these jeans aren’t going to fit.”
“Sounds like we need to go shopping. My treat.”
