He comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my baby belly, flattening his hands over it possessively. “You sound like a designer on one of those shows.” His teeth nip at my earlobe.
I smile. “Well, my family’s business is houses. And don’t forget my brother was one of those hosts on TV.”
“You know, I forget Del is a celebrity. He seems so normal.”
I lean to the side and look up at him. “Now that I know you, I could say the same for you.” I gaze at the kitchen around me. “Until I saw this house.”
“Does that bother you?”
I shake my head. “No, it doesn’t actually.”
He twists me around in his arms and backs me up to the island. His gaze is dark and heated on mine. “You’re the only woman I’ve brought here.”
My brows meet my hairline and my heart races. “Serious?”
“Yep.” He cages me between his arms, rubbing his nose against the length of my neck. “Want to see my bedroom?” he whispers against my skin.
I close my eyes, wanting to give in to the temptation that is Nate Gentry.
But there’s a niggling thought in my mind that stops me. I lean back, putting space between us. “Yes, but would you mind if I took a nap? I’m exhausted.”
He blinks once, twice. “Yeah, of course. Come on, let’s get you to bed.”
His bedroom is a gorgeous master suite, decorated in blues and grays, giving it a soothing feel. A balcony with breathtaking views of the ocean stretching out to the horizon is the cherry on top.
He shows me the bathroom, which looks like something out of a high-end spa, then leaves me to rest. I slip off my shoes and stretch out in his giant king-sized bed.
I wasn’t lying; I am exhausted. But I also need some time alone to think.
I’ve let my heart get too involved even when I knew better. Every day that goes by is one day closer to the unsaid expiration date of Nate and me as a couple.
He hasn’t told me in so many words, but I feel a vibe that’s familiar to me.
It feels like a broken heart.

A few hours later,I stand in front of the full-length mirror in the walk-in closet of the master suite.
Except this is no regular closet. Nope, this closet is the size of my bedroom in my little house and has a sitting area and vanity. All the places I could put my shoes…
But I have to shut that idea down real quick.
I can’t think about the future too much or it’ll depress me. And for tonight, I’m going to pretend like this thing between us is forever.
“Damn, babe. I’m going to have to keep the boys away from you.”
I turn to find Nate leaning against the wall, one arm behind his back, his free hand rubbing his chin. I run a hand self-consciously over the curve of my belly and look down at my skinny capri jeans and purple, sleeveless silk blouse.
“I didn’t know if this was casual or dressy, but being a baseball game, I figured casual would be good.”
Seeing his tall form in jeans and a black polo shirt with the silver-and-purple Bull Sharks logo on it makes my stomach flip-flop.
As he approaches me, his gaze rakes me over from head to toe, and warmth pools low in my belly. He stops in front of me and pushes a lock of hair behind my ear. “You look hot, babe.”
I roll my eyes but smile and rub my growing belly, happiness at his words filling my chest. “Whatever. But thank you.”
“I have something for you.”
