He flicks his wrist to look at the time on his large watch. “A few hours. The game starts at seven and I need to be there by five.” He lays a hand on top of my thigh. “So, plenty of time to rest and…things.”

I laugh and rest my head against the seat. “I guess it has been at least twenty-four hours since the last time.”

“I’m dying over here.”

I glance over at him with a smile on my face. Strong jaw darkened by scruff, perfectly slanted nose, dark aviator shades covering his eyes, his wrist is draped across the steering wheel, controlling the powerful vehicle, his thick thighs slightly splayed in the seat.

He looks cool, confident, and sexy.

And all mine.

At least for now.

Every time I look at him, my stomach flutters. It isn’t just the fact he’s truly the most handsome man I’ve ever known. He’s smart, thoughtful, and despite his accolades, he’s humble.

Still, the way he looks right now makes me want to crawl over the wide console area and settle in his lap.

His fingers dance lightly up and down my inner thigh, driving me crazy. I need to think about something else before I tell him to pull over so he can fuck me.

A ringing fills the cabin, and the name Lou pops up on the dashboard screen.

“Shit, I’m sorry, babe. I need to take this.”

I gesture to the screen. “Of course, go ahead.”

I look out the side window and let out a slow breath, my stomach churning.

A call from Nate’s agent is one way to douse the fire in my pants.

It isn’t that I dislike Lou, but whenever he calls, there’s the slightest shift in Nate’s demeanor. Imperceptible to everyone but me.

He always says he’s fine, but I see the shadows haunting his eyes.

Nate pushes a button on the steering wheel. “Hey, Lou. What’s up?”

“Hey, bud. Just wanted to see if you’re ready for tonight.”

Nate’s smile lights up his face. “More than ready.” He takes my hand and gives me a wink that makes my heart flutter. “I got my girl here with me, and we’re headed to Cape Sands to rest up. I’m looking forward to seeing the team again.”

“Good, good. Listen, Nate, we’re running out of time with the contract. They’ve—”

“Hey, Lou. I’m sorry, man. We’ll have to talk later on this. I’ll contact you tomorrow.”

He hangs up before Lou responds and gives me a sheepish smile. “Sorry about that.”

“It’s fine.”

“I don’t want to talk business right now. I want to enjoy this trip.”

Does he not want to talk business because I’m around? Or because he really wants to spend time with me?

I shift in my seat. The fact that I don’t know the answer makes me sick to my stomach.

We lapse into silence for a while, and it makes me restless.

“So, tell me about tonight. Will I meet some of your teammates?”

He nods with a smile. “If you want, I can introduce you to the whole crew.”
