“Nate stays out of the spotlight, doesn’t he?”

“As much as a man with his level of success and fans can. It’s part of the reason he settled in a small beach town that’s still under the radar.”

He rubbed a hand over his chin. “Del’s the same way. It’s easier for him in some ways now that he’s back home in a small town. Other times, he has nowhere to hide. But having family around and being back with Addison keeps him pretty grounded.”

She sighed as they strolled up the hill to the cabin. “I wish my family had been bigger. I guess with them all living here, you see them pretty regularly.”

“Yeah. Don’t worry. You’ll meet them all before you leave. My siblings and a few cousins are everywhere in this town.”

“Cousins too?”

“Yep. My family was one of the town founding families. A Reynolds has lived in Madison Ridge for a couple of centuries now.”

“Wow.” She blew out a breath. “Well, I can’t wait to meet them all then.”

Something in Aidan’s chest shifted that he ignored. “Well, you’re here for a while. Which brings me to a question.”

“What’s that?”

They’d made it to the deck stairs, and she was a step ahead of him. When she turned back, they were eye to eye. The light from the cabin illuminated her eyes, making them appear to shine. He put a foot on the step where she stood, which brought him a little closer to her.

He needed to tread so carefully with this one. She made him want things, awakened not only his baser instincts but ones he’d never felt with another woman.

But it was crazy, right? He’d known her all of what? Two or three days? Things like that didn’t happen in real life, but especially not for him.

Keep it light, Reynolds.

“Why a Karmann Ghia?”

Megan blinked at him for a moment before a beautiful smile lit up her face and she started laughing. She shifted her weight and leaned against the railing.

“Okay, don’t laugh.”

“I can’t guarantee that since you haven’t told me yet.”

“Well, then I’m not telling you.” She started to turn away, but he snagged her wrist and brought her back around.

“Okay, okay. I won’t make fun of you,” he said, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice.

“Promise?” Her eyes searched his.

“Promise.”

“Okay.” She blew out a breath like she was about to dive off the high board. “So you know how I told you I named my car Beatrix?”

He blinked. “Yeah…”

“Well, I always thought Beatrix Kiddo was such a badass. Not the killing people part because that’s just…bad. But the part where she was able to focus on a singular goal like that. And who am I kidding? The fact she could kick so many asses like that is just short of amazing.”

Where the hell was she going with this? “Okay…” He drew out the word into multiple syllables.

“Well, in the second movie, she drove a Karmann Ghia when she got to Mexico on her final leg to find Bill.” She looked down. “After my divorce, I needed out of Nashville. But I was pretty broke. The ex took back all the gifts”—she did air quotes when she said that—“except my car. And frankly, I hated that car.”

“What was it?”

“A BMW convertible.”

“I can’t picture you in a car like that.”
