Her eyes roamed over his face for a moment before she slid her hand into his. With her other hand, she pointed a finger at him. “I see that look in your eye, Shane Kavanaugh. First, we sleep. Then we do,” she waved her hand between them, “all that.”
He arranged his features into a serious expression even though his voice held the underlying tone of “yeah, sure right”. “Whatever you say, Peaches,” he agreed before pulling her up the stairs and into his bedroom.
Chapter 18
When Trouble Finds You
Adistant rumble ofthunder stirred Emma from sleep. Her eyes blinked open to the dark room. Something was different. There was a warm body pressed up against her back.
Shane.
Her lips curled into a sleepy smile and she pressed herself against him, feeling his warm, naked chest against her skin. One arm tightened around her waist, while the other slid up between her breasts and cupped one. His magical fingers worked her nipple into a hard peak, causing her to gasp softly.
He nudged his hips forward. She bit her lip when his cock pressed against her ass.
“Good morning, Peaches.” His breath was warm against her ear, causing stirrings deep in her core.
“Good morning,” she whispered.
“Sleep well?” His mouth found the slope between her neck and shoulder. Shane planted hot, open-mouthed kisses on the sensitive skin, his tongue snaking out to tickle her skin. Shivers ran down her spine like lightning.
“Hmmmm...” Emma moved against him, wanting every part of her body touching his. Everywhere he kissed, it was agony and ecstasy to feel the heat of his talented mouth mingled with the cool air. Her heart thumped against her chest in anticipation of where those kisses would lead.
The thought of another round of mind-blowing sex wasn’t the only reason her heart hammered against her ribs. She knew that in the short time they’d been together, she’d managed to fall in love with him.
He was all wrong for her. Hell, he made his living making a product that had nearly destroyed her. He lived on the other side of the country when he didn’t travel the world for his job. Oh yeah, let’s not forget, she worked for him, too. Emma had obliterated her cardinal rule: never sleep with someone you work with or work for. Because when it ended—and didn’t it always?—it would taint the working relationship.
Yet, she found she couldn’t bring herself to care about her rules. Emma just wanted to be happy, something she hadn’t been in more years than she could count. For her, that meant giving up a little piece of herself to him and trusting him. Because if there was any man she wanted to give her heart away to, it was Shane. He was kind, smart, loved his family, and was sexy as hell.
A small nagging in the back of her mind reminded her that he’d been married once and hadn’t told her about it. She pushed the thought away. They were still getting to know and trust each other on a personal level. She hadn’t told him about her addiction yet, had she? Emma swallowed hard and blanked out the thoughts of havingthatparticular conversation with him. It was one she needed to handle sooner than later, as it was crucial to her recovery steps. Not avoiding the hard stuff.
But it would take a little more time to gauge how he’d handle it.
She rolled onto her back. He lifted up on his elbow and gazed down into her eyes.
“What’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours, Emmaline?” he murmured, nuzzling his nose against her neck.
