Dash:I wish I could but I’m Dj-ing. Got a job. ??
Me: Congrats! Where?
Dash:DayLux, a day club spot.
Me: I’ve heard of it but never been. I might need to check you out.
Dash:You should; it’s part time but I’m excited.
Me: Congrats again and hit me once your schedule is free.
Dash:Will do ??
I place my cell on the table and when I look up, two more couples are entering the dining area followed by Keonna with my food. She places my croissant and salad in front of me along with a small ramekin with a yellow dressing. After thanking her, I sanitize my hands and taste the dressing. It’s some creamy, freshlemon juicespikedsaladdressing. It tastes heavenly so, I drizzle it over my half-size salad that definitely looks like a whole entrée. Taking my time, I kill over half the delicious beef bacon croissant and most of the salad.
When I’m done, Keonna brings my thick ass slice of German chocolate cake in a clear to-go container and a bag of the animal crackers. I instantly panic.
“Is the goat out there?” I ask.
“I haven’t seen him but these are just in case. If you place them on the ground, he’ll go to them and leave you alone. Plus, Rufus is out front. If you’re scared, he’ll keep Billy away.”
“Rufus?” I question.
“The older cowboy out front. He’s our driver and he’s waiting to take our guest to the airport. Do you need a ride?”
“Oh no. My baby is parked.”
“Well, before you go, at least tour the ranch,” she suggests.
“I’m really not an animal person but maybe if I come back. I’m about to ride back,” I begin then stop because I really don’t know where I’m heading. “I’m just going get in my car and ride today.”
“Sounds fun. Make sure you come back and stay with us,” she says.
“Now, that I’ll definitely do. It’s so beautiful and peaceful here. Plus, this food was divine.”
After tipping her a twenty, I grab my cake and bags then leave. Thankfully, the goat is nowhere insight and I make it to my baby without an embarrassing altercation. Rufus was on the sprinter anyway pulling off when I walked out.
Since I filled up before I checked into the Phoxes Den, I don’t need to make any stops before hitting the highway. It’s just me, my Hellcat gliding on the road, and Yara blasting through my speakers until my tank reaches empty again. With no determined destination in mind, I head out of the ranch. Within two hours, I’ve left Miller’s Pointe, driven through a little town called Hollow Grove, and am spotting an exit for a park.
I’m definitely not an animal or outdoorsy girl but I love the beautify and peace in nature. I picked that up from Imari. When he wasn’t working on cars or at races, he would hike or go fishing. I accompanied him a few times but only as a spectator. During those times, he and I would have deep or full of shit conversations. I didn’t care either way; I just like being with my twin.
After finding a parking space at Greenway Park, I grab my phone and to-go bag then walk to one of the benches surrounding a unique all-wood playground set. The playground is devoid of any kids because it’s in the middle of a school day but there are a few people walking what looks like a trail. The air is perfect, cool and comfortable and I sit and enjoy it while eating this sinful cake. Aside from the obvious, this day has been perfect.
The vibration of my cell in my pocket causes me to put my cake down too damn fast, causing me to shake my head as I pull it out. My smile momentarily fades when I see it’s not Daymir but quickly returns when I see that it’s my dad.
“Hey, daddy.”
“I caught you,” he says.
“Daddy, I always answer when you call. What’s going on? You called to brag about the beautiful beaches in Florida?” I tease.
“Not today. It’s ugly out there. They say we might get a hurricane this weekend,” he says as if that’s not a big deal.
“This weekend? It’s already Thursday. Are ya’ll evacuating today?” I ask, really concerned. Panama City is a beach town. Water is everywhere. They need to leave.
“Nah, Sugar. We’re not leaving. They are just predicting a category one. We have a generator, cases of water, and your momma got enough food in here to feed an army. We’re staying and we will be fine.”
“Are you sure, daddy?”
