When Talia realized the kind of necklace, her eyes doubled in size. I quickly tossed the chain back into the empty dish.

"Okay, wait… that doesn't make sense. Adonis would have been done it if he wanted to. Or he would have been done something to me. Did you ask him where he got it from?"

Talia had a point. However, at this moment, I didn't want to do anything but get the fuck out of that house. I was grateful that he nor Dom knew where we lived. At least there, I could feel safe.

"No, I can't ask any of that. We need to get the fuck out of here. Go knock on that door and tell Adonis that my period came on and we are leaving. My purse is on the dresser under the television. Grab that, and let's fucking go. Find something to say to Dom."

"Girl, that man is knocked out."

That was even better. I hope that excuse was enough for Adonis to let us go. Worst case, Talia would have my bag, and if we had to shoot it out of this muthafucking house, we were leaving.

"Are you ready?" she asked, placing her hand on the doorknob.

"Mm-hmm."

When she pulled the door open, Adonis was standing on the other side.

"You good?" he asked with this confused look on his face.

He kept changing his glare between Talia and me.

"I caught my period, so I'ma just go home."

"You don't want me to go to the gas station and get some diapers for ya pussy?"

"No, I'm okay."

He stepped out of the way and then quickly walked back into his room. I held my breath for a bit until he came back out of the room with my purse bunched by the handle in his hand.

"Let me walk you downstairs."

Talia started following directly behind me.

"You going too?" he asked her.

"Yeah, her shit is horrible, like Bloody Mary and whatnot, so she's gone need me."

He gave us both this weird look when we got to the bottom, but he didn't object.

"You got ya car keys?" I turned and looked at Talia.

She picked up this duffle bag that was placed on the wall near the window.

"Yup."

"Call me when you get home, Nyoka," he said, still with a look of confusion.

"Okay."

I was walking backward so that way I could still have my eyes on Adonis. I didn't need him shooting me in the back. I gave him a wave right before I got into my Jeep and backed out of the driveway. Talia was about to get into her car, but Adonis waved her over. I could have punched her in the face when she went over there. He whispered something to her, and then she jogged back to her car and followed behind me.

I didn't know if it was the fact that it was almost four in the morning, so no cars were on the road, or the fact that I was trying to do the dash, but we made it home in fifteen minutes.

"Ny, slow down and take a breather." I heard Talia's voice behind me as I rushed into the house.

"What the fuck is Adonis doing with that chain?" I yelled louder than I intended to.

She let me have my moment.
