Stormey was no longer in the SUV with Desmond and Henry.
She was on a cot in a room where the ceiling had exposed pipes. It was filthy and didn’t seem as if anyone had cleaned in years. She turned her head and took in two men sitting in chairs watching television. These men were large and looked dangerous. Both of them had wayward hair that stood up on end everywhere.
Where were they?
The building must have been abandoned. There were plenty of buildings that were run-down in all cities across the country due to the war. She bit back a whimper, not wanting to alert them she was awake.
Stormey tugged at her hands and feet and found them bound to the bed. There would be no escaping. A door to the right opened, and a woman strode through. She held an air of power to her. Then men jumped to their feet when they saw her.
“Alpha,” they said simultaneously.
Stormey swallowed hard.
Alpha.
No, it couldn’t be.
The woman’s gaze landed on her, and Stormey’s heart all but leaped into her throat. She had seen this woman before. On television, threatening their entire world.
It was Azura Michaels.
“Well, you have awakened.” Azura smirked. She walked over to Stormey with a dangerous glint in her eye. She was dressed in jeans, a white button-down shirt, and boots. Her dark hair was pulled back in a low ponytail. Her amber eyes bored into Stormey. “I was beginning to think that we’d caused real damage.”
“Let me go,” Stormey whispered. She tugged at her wrists, but the rope surrounding them was firmly in place. If she was here with lycans, then what had happened to Desmond and Henry? She frantically pulled at the ropes. She had to get out of here.
“Keep doing that and you’ll just hurt yourself.” Azura chuckled.
“Then let me go,” Stormey demanded. She didn’t know where this bravery had come from, but she had to find Desmond. “Where are my guards?”
“You’d better watch your tone, human,” Azura snarled. She came over to the cot and reached down, gripping Stormey’s chin in a tight hold.
Stormey fell still, fear taking over her. Her breaths were coming in pants.
Azura bared her large and extremely sharp fangs. “You are in no position to demand anything from me. Do you know who you are talking to?”
“A dead alpha,” Stormey spat. Once Hegna knew Stormey had been taken, she wouldn’t rest until Stormey was returned safely. Hegna would ensure this lycan would pay with her life.
“Brave human who is now on very borrowed time.” Azura smirked again. She leaned down and reached out to touch Stormey’s hair.
Stormey turned her head away, not wanting the lycan to touch her.
“Brave, but a fool,” Azura said.
What did she mean Stormey was now living on borrowed time?
“You are a wanted enemy of the crown,” Stormey said. Everyone knew the queen had a bounty on this lycan’s head. It was shared all around on the news stations, and Stormey had even heard warriors talk about it and what they would do with the money.
“Ah, yes, the queen’s bounty on my head.” Azura lifted her hand with another smirk on her lips. The glint in her eyes sent a shiver down Stormey’s spine. “I had heard the queen had placed a hefty sum on my head, but she will be sorely disappointed. My head likes its place on my neck and shoulders.”
“Hegna will kill you,” Stormey warned. There was no doubt in her mind that Hegna would deal with this lycan.
“The heir to the throne, she’s no better than her father,” Azura said.
Stormey’s hands clenched into fists. If she were free, she would wipe that irritating smirk from the woman’s face.
“You poor human. You don’t even realize that the mate you are matched with is from a family of murderers.”
“You lie,” Stormey cried out. Hegna and her family did what they needed to for their people. She refused to believe anything Azura had to say. She would say anything to try to turn her against Hegna. For all Stormey knew, Azura wanted to change her into a lycan. Tears blurred her vision. Stormey grew angry at herself that the waterworks were about to spill. She didn’t want to appear weak, she was pissed.
