Hegna fell deep in thought. Could they have still been in town during the broadcast? Hegna slid her hand along the computer screen and zoomed out to review all parts of Black Hollow. Because of the war, there were plenty of abandoned buildings in and on the outskirts of town.
“Weren’t there purchases of abandoned buildings recently?” Hegna asked. She remembered hearing that someone had bought some of the buildings and there were rumors of plans of renovating and reopening. She had been impressed but hadn’t looked too closely at the company who had acquired them. The world was starting to get back on its feet. The devastation from the war was great, and they were going in the right direction. “June.”
Hegna spun around and eyed her hacker.
“Yes, Your Grace?” June paused what she was doing and looked up from the laptop.
“I want to know who was behind the purchases of any properties from the last five years,” Hegna said.
“I’ll put Peter on that task,” June said.
The tall male sitting beside her gave a nod to confirm he’d heard her.
“Are you thinking that lycans bought those buildings?” Bijou murmured.
“Yes, and if they did, we know the first place to go look.” Hegna stood back from the table and folded her arms in front of her. Ringing from the hologram box on the edge of the table sounded.
“It’s the king,” Corbin announced.
Hegna motioned for him to answer. He walked around the table and tapped on the box. Her father’s and mother’s images appeared in the room. Everyone knelt and bowed to the royal couple. Hegna bowed her head to her parents.
“I won’t ask how you are doing, daughter,” the king’s boisterous voice came across the room. His ice-blue eyes, the same as hers, watched her. His form walked over to her and came to stand in front of her.
She tilted her head back to meet his gaze.
“I can see in your eyes that you want blood,” he said.
“I will do what my sister failed to do and kill the lycan,” Hegna hissed.
“I received your disturbing message,” he said. His infamous scowl appeared. “Are you sure there are two of them?”
She had sent word to her father immediately when she’d been in Sanlow. News that there were two alphas, twins, was not anything she wanted to hold back.
“I saw it in his blood memories,” she replied. “You know as well as I do that memories do not lie.”
“Well, be that as it may, it matters not that there are two of them. We will defeat them,” the king snarled.
This man who stood before them was a vicious vampire who had led thousands of vampires to war. For Hegna and her sisters, he was everything. He was the one who would go to Hell and face down the Devil himself for his children and wife. The world didn’t see him as they did. He was a loving father and husband who ensured his daughters were tough warriors trained from childhood to defend their people and everyone they loved.
“You have the full backing of the royal army,” the queen said. She came to stand by her husband.
“Thank you, Mother.” Hegna was thankful for her parents and appreciated them, but at the moment, she could handle getting her mate back. She had been through many tests in her life. She considered them all trials to prepare her for the day she would be queen.
This was going to be no different. She would succeed and get her mate back.
“I am going to do my own broadcast,” the king announced.
Hegna arched an eyebrow at him. He had refused to do one before, not wanting to stoop to Azura’s level.
Her father had always been larger than life. He was a force to be reckoned with. When he spoke, everyone listened. The human government was terrified of him, which they should be. They hadn’t believed that Niall had armies and millions of vampires under his rule. According to the human leaders, vampires didn’t exist.
Her father and the six other kings had taken the world by storm.
Hegna had a feeling they were going to do the same against the lycans.
“We will do it together, miere,” the queen murmured. She rested a hand on her husband’s arm. She had stood by her husband’s side since the moment they’d been mated.
Hegna felt a tug on her heart. She wanted what her parents had. To be able to spend an eternity with the one person who completed her.
