Kelsey closed her eyes and sighed, basking in the feeling of Mythia tightening her hold around her.

She felt safe, protected, and loved.

She didn’t know what she needed to be protected from, but she knew Mythia would defend her against anything.

Her thoughts drifted to the medallion on the nightstand. They hadn’t spoken about the weird thing that had occurred when she’d touched it.

“What was that when I touched the necklace?” she asked. It had been frightening to think that her touching it caused something bad to happen.

“The ruby medallion had a curse on it,” Mythia began. Kelsey stiffened at the announcement. She had never heard of it being cursed.

“Cursed? By who?”

“That’s what I need to find out.” Kelsey looked up and found Mythia staring at the ceiling. “But I know why the curse was placed on it.”

Kelsey sensed this conversation was about to go deep. Pushing up from her position, she leaned back against the pillows while Mythia rolled over to her back, forcing the sheets lower, revealing her brown breasts.

Kelsey tried to keep from staring at them. They were perfect in every way. Memories of her mouth on them came to mind—

She cleared her throat and tore her eyes away from the brown mounds and to Mythia’s face. “Why was it cursed?”

“What do you know about your family’s line?”

“Nothing more than what my mother and grandmother have shared with me. As for my father’s side, I don’t know anything about him, nor have I ever met him.”

They sat in a comfortable silence for what seemed like minutes, but was only seconds. Kelsey wasn’t sure where Mythia was going with her line of questioning.

Mythia pushed up on her elbow and announced, “I believe you have dragon blood in you.”

“There’s always been a joke about me being one sixteenth on my mother’s father’s side.” Her mother had shared that with her when she was younger.

“This is not a joke, and I believe you’re more than what you think. If you don’t know your father and his lineage, it could be possible that there’s a dragon kin on his side too.” Mythia sat up and took Kelsey’s hand in hers. The seriousness in her expression worried Kelsey.

“What are you saying?”

“This explains how you’re able to sense the mating bond, your easy acceptance of fate, your comfortable nature around me.”

“Are you saying I can shift into a dragon?”

“No.” A small smile played on Mythia’s lips. “What I’m saying is, because of the blood running through your veins, you are special.”

She pressed a kiss to Kelsey’s fingers. Kelsey moved closer to her, but Mythia held her back.

“Remember when you mentioned the man from your time walk journey?”

“The one you fought.”

“He has claimed that the curse was placed on the medallion. He is bound to it.”

“What?” she exclaimed. Her heart began to race. Was he going to do her harm for touching the necklace? “Why would he be bound to my family’s necklace?”

“Because he is your ancestor. Any one of his kin who owns and touches it he will come to protect you.”

Kelsey paused at the thought that not only was it just confirmed she had dragon kin in her lineage, but that he was still around. He wanted to protect her? Did that mean get to know her and her family? Walk amongst them?

“That doesn’t sound too bad. If I’m his kin, and he wants to be—”

“He will take you from me,” Mythia growled, her grip tightening on Kelsey. “Per dragon law, an unmated member of a dragon’s family, no matter how many times removed, will be placed under that dragon’s protection.”
