Kelsey melted against Mythia as she opened her mouth. Her tongue slipped out and invited Mythia’s in. Unable to resist, Mythia tilted her head to the side to deepen it, grabbing a fistful of Kelsey’s thick locks.

The scent of her mate’s arousal floated through the air.

A cough sounded loudly behind her.

Lifting her head, Mythia glanced over her shoulder. She had completely forgotten that Sascha and Raven were in the room.

She turned back to Kelsey to see her staring up at her with those wide, pretty eyes.

“When are the humans to arrive?” Mythia asked Sascha, keeping her eyes on her mate while running her finger along her bottom lip.

She needed her mate.

“Tomorrow evening. Once the sun settles, they will arrive,” Sascha replied.

“Can I at least call him? My cell phone is in my bag.”

She looked into Kelsey’s eyes and knew she wouldn’t be able to tell her no.

“Fine. I’ll have your bag brought to you.”

Kelsey sat on the couch and stared down at her phone. As promised, her bag was returned to her. Raven and Sascha had exited the room, leaving her alone with Mythia, who she was sure would hover close by while she placed the call to Jasper.

She tried to calm herself. Excitement filled her at the thought of hearing her friend’s voice. She didn’t want to appear nervous or anything, for she knew he would rush to her side.

But if what Sascha said was true, she was sure he would be the one behind the men coming to the castle tomorrow.

“What’s wrong? I thought you wanted to call this Jasper?”

“I am. I just don’t know what to say.”

“You tell him that you are the mate of Mythia the Black, and you are fine.”

“You’re known as Mythia the Black?” She had never heard of Mythia addressed as such.

“I’ve been known by a few names.” The dragon shifter shrugged. Kelsey stared at her with the realization that she wanted to know more about the shifter.

Mate with her, a voice whispered in her head.

Kelsey jumped.

Who the hell said that? Swallowing hard, she tried to will her racing heart to slow down.

“What is it, my love?”

“Oh, nothing,” Kelsey lied. Mythia didn’t look convinced. Kelsey offered a small smile of assurance and turned her attention to her phone. Unlocking the screen, she tapped on Jasper’s number and put the phone to her ear.

“Hello? Kelsey?” Jasper’s frantic voice came on the line. Kelsey closed her eyes and inhaled slowly. She was trying not to let her emotions get the best of her. He was probably losing his mind with guilt. He had warned her about breaking into the castle.

“Jasper. It’s me.”

“Oh my God! Where are you? Are you safe? I’ll come get you.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mythia straighten to her full height. Apparently, she could hear Jasper with her shifter hearing. Her possessive dragon didn’t like the mention of her leaving.

“Yes, I’m safe. I’m still at the castle.”

“Just tell me where I can come pick you up. I’ve been going crazy. I knew I shouldn’t have left you, or at least went in with you—”
