“Who is going to stop me?” Maxius growled. He stepped forward, closing the gap between him and the warlock. Kadir may have got the drop on him before, but it wasn’t going to happen again.
“Boys,” Kamila shouted, walking to them.
“What?” Kadir sneered.
“Who made either of you in charge of me?” She folded her arms in front of her.
Maxius glanced over at her and was met with her heated glare. His animal paused its pacing in his chest. It took a step back, not liking being the object of her anger.
“Kamila—”
“Hush it.” Kamila held up her hand and cut Kadir off. She brushed her dark hair from her face and forced her way between them, poking her cousin in the chest. “Kadir, I love you, but you are not in charge of me or my life.”
Kadir’s eyebrows rose high. He fell back away from her and raised his hands. “What do you mean?”
“I mean that if Maxius wants to come with me to my place, then so be it,” she huffed. Kamila advanced on Kadir. “I’m tired of you and your macho protective mantra. It stops here and now.”
Maxius chuckled. His mate never failed to amaze him.
“Red, I’m supposed to—”
“Protect me when I’m in danger from an enemy. Not my mate,” she shouted.
Maxius’s smile disappeared.
Did she just tell her cousin that they were mates?
She froze in place, apparently realizing what she’d admitted.
“What did you just say?” Kadir asked. His gaze flicked to Maxius before going back to Kamila. “That wolf is your soul mate?”
Kadir stepped to Kamila and reached for her cloak. Maxius released a growl, striding over to them.
“What are you doing?” Maxius snarled. He stood next to Kamila and took her hand. His wolf didn’t want to be away from her any longer. He entwined their fingers.
Kadir ignored him and pushed aside the neckline of Kamila’s shirt. He froze in place.
“You’ve mated with the wolf,” Kadir announced in a flat monotone.
Kamila looked to Maxius with a small smile. “Yeah, I did.”
“We know that it hasn’t been done in a while, but fate had a play in our union,” Maxius said.
Kadir dropped her shirt and took them both in. “Is that so?” He sighed.
“Yes, Kadir. Fate decided to give me a wolf.” Kamila grinned and leaned into Maxius. “A big, bad wolf.”
Maxius bent down and pressed his lips to hers in a chaste kiss.
“Well, from the looks of it, he’s already claimed you.” Kadir ran a hand along his head. He took a step away from them then spun around. “You’re sure about this?”
“More sure than I have ever been before,” Maxius replied. “I’ve known for years that Kamila was my mate, but because of the strife between witches and wolves, I stayed away from her. No matter how much it tore me up inside.”
“Maxius,” Kamila whispered.
He faced her and brought her hand to his lips. “I will fight whoever I need to in order to spend an eternity with you.”
Kamila turned to him and leaned into him. They stared into each other’s eyes, so Maxius reached out to her telepathically.
