Damn the attraction. Her grandmother’s death warranted justice.
“You are.”
“The Wolffang pack will be in contact.” He stalked toward the door with his men in tow.
The wolves disappeared from the room.
“Red,” Kadir murmured.
She held up her hand to silence him. The wolves were still in the building, and even speaking low, they would be sure to hear their conversation.
Kamila looked at her cousin who stood with clenched fists. His nostrils flared as he waited.
A minute later, Kamila relaxed.
The wolves were gone.
“What is it?” She walked over to her grandmother’s chair—her chair. Kamila was going to have to get used to claiming all things as hers instead of Hazel’s. Sitting, she eyed the guards as they came to stand before her.
“Why did you allow him to go?” Kadir sneered.
Kamila sank back in the plush chair and smirked.
“Do you honestly think they are going to up and leave? Maxius is going to do the work. Who is the closest to all of the wolves? Who else would wolves feel most comfortable revealing their true nature to?” Kamila snapped.
The room remained silent.
Kamila sat forward and gripped the armrests. The coven had been uneasy with the announcement of Hazel’s death. Blood was wanted for the murder of their fearless leader.
And blood was what they would receive.
“So we are just going to allow them to do what they please—”
“Careful, Kadir,” Kamila murmured. He may be her cousin and her personal guard who could speak frankly when they were alone, but at the moment they were in front of others, and she would not tolerate his attitude.
She was the new priestess and still had to assert herself to the coven.
“I’m sorry.” He lowered his eyes to her feet. “I’m angered and frustrated.”
She almost felt bad for cutting him off, but it was necessary. Athan, Jorah, and Amber would need to know their new priestess was strong and intelligent. Kamila was going to have to get the entire coven to trust her, and her first action would be to avenge Hazel’s death.
“As am I. But no, we are not going to let the wolves do whatever. Maxius may think that, but we are going to be joining the investigation, and it will be I who will serve justice.”
Kamila blew out a deep breath, thinking of spending time with the alpha. She was going to have to figure out something quick about her reactions to him.

“That was a direct act of war,” Khan seethed. He whipped the vehicle down the winding road back to pack grounds.
Maxius sat in the passenger seat and was still trying to calm down from being in the presence of his mate.
His animal was pissed that they’d left her.
He ran a hand along his face and pushed down his wolf’s rage.
“Cool it,” he murmured and glanced out the window. He watched the scenery go by, still able to smell the scent of Kamila. It was the sweetest smell that he had ever had the chance to breathe in. It had taken everything in him to walk away from her.
“What do you mean? They took you against your will—”
