Chapter Seven

Sorin cursed, jogging down the stairs of Athena’s apartment. He hated the fact he had to leave. The sun would be up soon, and he needed to get to the safety of his apartment.

He strode to the door and stepped out of the building. His limo pulled up and parked on the curb in front of her building.

While he walked to the car, the hairs on the back of his neck rose. He paused beside the vehicle. His gaze swept the road, and he came upon the sight of two men standing across the street in front of a worn-down house.

Their direct stares sent alarms off in his head.

Hunters.

Sorin, unafraid of the human militia, strolled slowly around the car.

“Vampire,” the one human called out. He was dressed in t-shirt, jean jacket, and matching jeans. A black skull cap covered his head.

Sorin stopped in the middle of the street and glared at the two of them.

His gums burned and stretched as his fangs pushed their way though.

“Hunters,” he growled.

“Shouldn’t you be in your coffin right now? The sun is on its way up.” The other human crossed his arms in front of his chest. He was dressed in cargo shorts and a t-shirt. His hair was long and rested on his shoulders.

His lips curled up in a smirk, and Sorin was going to take great pleasure in wiping it off the human’s face.

Unable to have a taste of Athena’s sweet blood was leaving him craving the taste of the copper sustenance that nourished him.

He stood still, the distinct beat of their hearts filtering to him.

Blood.

Fresh.

Two healthy men.

The slam of the door echoed behind him, but he ignored it. His guard and driver must have seen the danger, but Sorin didn’t need anyone to protect him. He held up a hand to warn the driver to stay back.

These two were for him.

“How about what I do is none of your business,” Sorin bit out around his fangs.

They both spread out, drawing out their weapons.

Wooden stakes.

The human movies had one vampire myth right. Stab a vampire through the heart with a stake, and they would perish.

Hell, Sorin didn’t know of any animal that could take anything through the heart and survive. Sorin wasn’t worried at all about the two men. He could take them on without even breaking a sweat.

There was no one outside at this time of night.

No witnesses.

He smiled, showing a little fang.

“Tommy, let’s kill this vamp,” Skull Cap announced, waving his stake around.

“It’s been a day or two since I’ve taken one out,” Tommy bragged.
