Chapter Five

Athena jumped stepping out of her changing room. A large man in a black suit that was the uniform for hotel security stood beside the door.

“I do apologize for scaring you, Ms. Chambers,” the guard said. “Your ride is waiting for you by the back door.”

Sorin had kept his promise of providing a car to take her home. Tonight had been another sold-out show. It had run over late, and she was the last one to leave the dressing room. Liza and Olivia had already left for the night.

“And if I refuse and want a cab instead?” she asked, tilting her head to the side.

“This is not a request, Ms. Chambers. We have direct orders for us to ensure you arrive safely to your home,” he said. His facial features didn’t show any warmth to him at all.

“Whose orders?” She already knew the answer but wanted to hear it out loud.

“Mr. Ludovici,” he replied with a nod. He motioned for her to walk down the hallway. “Please, follow me.”

She hefted her bag on her shoulder and trailed behind the monstrous-sized guard. He was certainly a man she wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.

They strode out the back doors. The warm desert air greeted her. She took in the dark limo waiting for her and made a mental note to speak with Sorin.

But she didn’t know how she would get a hold of him. It wasn’t like she could just ride up to his penthouse and demand to see him.

The security guard opened the back door for her and waited.

“Thank you,” she said quietly. She ducked her head and slid into the luxury vehicle. The door shut behind her, basking her in complete darkness. She blinked, and her eyes focused.

A gasp escaped her at the figure sitting across from her.

“Hello, Athena.” Sorin gave a slight chuckle.

“Sorin.” Her body swayed slightly from the car pulling off. She nervously pushed her hair behind her ear, staring at him. “What are you doing here?”

“Well, I own the car and figured I’d go out for a ride tonight.” He was again dressed in a dark suit. His cologne filled the air.

She breathed it in, and her body relaxed.

“Even though I told you I can take a cab, thank you.” She smiled. She wasn’t ungrateful. It was nice to ride in a luxury vehicle after performing instead of a random car.

“You are quite welcome. How was your show?” he asked.

She glanced out the window and watched the scenery pass by. “It was amazing, as usual. The crowd was great. I just have so much fun every night I’m out there.”

“You love performing, don’t you?” he asked.

She nodded, watching a small smile play on his lips.

“You have a way about you that attracts people to you.”

Her breath caught in her chest.

“Thank you,” she murmured.

“When I was watching you the other night, I couldn’t take my eyes off you,” he admitted.

Her heart rate slowly rose listening to him speak. His accent was quite sexy. The way he pronounced his words had her clenching her legs together.

“You had the crowd eating out of your hand. I found myself getting lost in your voice, your eyes, and the sway of your hips.”

Athena bit her lip to keep from moaning.
