Sorin focused on the building.

A cry from inside filtered out over the melee.

Athena.

Sorin rushed toward the door, bypassing humans and vampires.

He swung open the door with a bang. He walked through a short entryway before he was met with the sight of an open room filled with tables, televisions, computers, and gadgets.

His gaze swept the room and found it was empty.

“Clay Weber!” he shouted again.

Footsteps echoed through the air. His muscles grew taut as he watched a tall, muscular man walk forward with Athena in front of him.

Her eyes were wide with fear. She was disheveled, her clothes dirty, but otherwise she appeared unharmed.

“Sorin Ludovici, we finally meet,” Clay snarled. He gripped Athena’s hair in his hand tight, bringing her head back to rest on his chest. He leaned down, putting his lips near her ear. “See the blood all over your lover boy there? He’s a monster. Just like I told you he was.”

“Sorin,” she whimpered.

“Let her go,” Sorin demanded. He had a firm grip on his daggers. “Your fight is with me.”

“The way I see it, she’s one of you. Sleeping with you, letting you feed from her,” Clay seethed, pushing Athena forward.

She cried out in pain. Sorin’s gaze dropped down, and it was then he saw the knife pressing into her side.

“Harm her, and I promise you won’t make it two steps before I drain every ounce of blood in your fucking body,” Sorin threatened. He took a step forward, the grip on his daggers tight.

“Tell the stupid girl how you bloodsuckers go through life finding gullible women to tell them they are your one and only.” Clay chuckled. He brought the knife up to Athena’s chin.

Her lip quivered as she gazed at him.

“That is not true.” Sorin didn’t know what lies the human had been feeding her.

They had never finished speaking about what mating meant and how she would need to consume his blood in order to have immortality.

“You know nothing of my kind,” Sorin snapped. He took another step toward them.

The sounds of the fighting outside reached his ears. Sorin blocked them out. Linkin would take care of everything.

“I know enough. You prey on our people. Make some think they are doing good by donating. Others follow your kind, begging to be turned,” Clay huffed.

Athena’s wide eyes were filled with tears.

“You take our women. Make them believe in whatever bullshit you feed them. Tell her the truth!”

Sorin shook his head. He hoped with every fiber in his being that she didn’t believe the hunter.

He’d kill the deranged human and take her home.

“Let her go,” Sorin said again. He was tired of playing games with the human. If he had a problem with Sorin’s race, then he should fight him like a man and not hide behind a woman.

“You think I’m stupid? You’ll kill me the second she moves. I’ve seen your kind in action. She’s my ticket out of here. You and your men are going to let me walk straight out the front gates.”

“You’re not leaving with my mate,” Sorin growled.

“How about I make you?” Clay’s cynical laugh filled the air. He whipped the knife from Athena’s neck.
