It never felt right.

It seemed to be too much for one vampire to live in.

It needed a family.

Visions of Athena flashed before his eyes.

A true clan leader mated and raised the next generation in this home.

The twinge of pain pulsed in his chest as if to remind him of his own personal mission he needed to fulfill.

A warded garaged door opened, allowing the luxury sedan to drive into the hidden area.

If Sorin didn’t complete his business by the time the sun rose, he would be left spending the night in the Stronghold.

The car halted. They were safely inside the massive underground garage.

Linkin opened the door and stepped out first. Security was always his top priority. “It’s clear,” he advised.

Sorin exited from the dark sedan and glanced around. A few soldiers stood guarding the doors that led into the building.

“Let’s get this over with,” Sorin muttered, slamming the door shut.

Linkin walked over to the driver’s window and gave him instructions before backing away from the car.

Sorin strode to the door that would take him inside. His clipped footsteps echoed through the silence.

“My Lord,” the two guards murmured, bowing their heads.

Sorin held back a scowl.

“Gentleman,” he replied.

The first one opened the door for Sorin and Linkin.

They entered into a great hallway. The Stronghold was built for a king. The marble hallway was decorated with ancient artworks from years past.

“We might as well go straight to them,” Linkin suggested.

Sorin nodded. He was okay with that. The quicker they could get this confrontation over with, the quicker he could get back to his penthouse.

He followed Linkin through the building. They passed by shocked staff.

Linkin paused outside a set of double doors that led to the meeting room of the Las Vegas High Council.

“Into the mouth of the beast we go.” Sorin sighed. He gave a nod to Linkin who opened the door for him.

He strode forward into the room with a round table in the center. It was immaculately decorated, in dark undertones. A crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, and lit sconces flickered along the walls. A servant stood in the corner to be available for anyone’s needs.

Seated at the table were the four other members of the council.

“It’s so nice of you to join us, Sorin Ludovici,” Oana, the eldest said. She was petite with long blonde hair, one of the first vampires who’d helped form the clan hundreds of years ago. Oana was a wise woman who didn’t bite her tongue or keep from sharing her opinion.

“Well, it would seem I didn’t have much choice.” He stopped at the table and stood next to the empty chair that was meant for him.

“Please, Sorin. Have a seat.” Enoch Magna waved to the chair. He sat back and eyed Sorin.

The other two, Wren Camuso and Edward Pino, stared at him. He nodded to them both, and they returned the motion with a slight nod of their own.
