“I need the human Gavin now,” she whispered.

The wolf whined and pushed his head against her chest, as if asking for one last rub. She chuckled and ran her hand along his head one last time before he pulled back.

“Give me my Gavin.”

Her animal pressed forward, demanding to be free. She wanted to nuzzle with Gavin’s beast, but now wasn’t the time. They would have plenty of opportunities for that later.

Gavin stepped back, and the air around the large beast shimmered. Her hand grew clammy as she watched her mate go through the change from beast to man, leaving Gavin to kneel in front of her.

She bit back a cry before catapulting herself at him. He caught her with a grunt. She wrapped her arms around him, and the floodgates opened. Sobs racked her body while he held her.

The threat was gone.

He had fought the other alpha for them.

Even though her mind was broken and her memories had been gone, he’d never once given up on them.

“It’s going to be okay,” he murmured, standing up with her still draped on him.

Her arms refused to let him go. He pulled back and tipped her chin up so their eyes could meet. She blinked a few times to see through the blurriness.

Gavin reached up ever so gently and wiped away her tears from her cheeks. She leaned into his warm embrace, never wanting to leave again.

“I thought I was going to lose you,” she admitted.

His fingers followed the trail of wetness along her cheeks. He bent down and placed a small kiss on her forehead.

“I’m going to need you to have a little more faith in me.” He chuckled.

His hand cupped her jaw, and she rested into it while his thumb trailed along her bottom lip.

“After all we’ve been through, did you honestly think I would give you up?”

She shook her head. “No, I know you wouldn’t give me up. But you were in a fight to the death. Did you think I wouldn’t worry about you?”

Walking away while he fought for not only her, but for his life, was nerve-racking. How could she not worry?

He brought her close, wrapping his arms around her with a dry chuckle. She buried her face on his chest and breathed in his familiar scent. The hard feel of him against her was comforting. It was a feeling she had missed but didn’t realize she had.

“So you remember?” His deep baritone voice vibrated through his chest.

She nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. She tilted her head back and met his dark gaze. His hand came up to cup her jawline before sliding down to the base of her neck. The move sent a shiver down her spine.

“Everything?”

“Everything,” she breathed.

She knew what he was hinting at. Now she had her memories back, there was no reason for them not to mate.

The threat was gone.

She was home.

Her memories had returned.

It was time for them to complete something that should have been completed five years ago.

She leaned closer to him, eliciting a rumble in his chest.
