“Take care of her.” Irvin offered his hand, and Gavin took it in a firm grip.

He nodded to them both and threw his truck in reverse. The couple stood in their driveway, watching them. Putting the car in drive, he waved one last time and drove off down the road, heading home.

He navigated through the town, glancing over at Damara while she slept. He wolf paced as if expecting she’d up and disappear.

Fifteen minutes later, he pulled up to his house and parked the truck in front of the garage. He turned it off and quietly exited the vehicle. Moving over to her door, he gently opened it.

He took in her soft curves, and his cock pushed against his jeans. He wanted his mate, but right now, he had to take care of her. It had been a long, trying day at the hospital. Dark circles were present beneath her eyes, and he was a little disappointed that there was no clear-cut answer

A sigh escaped her, and her eyes fluttered open.

“We’re here?” she asked, her voice husky with sleep. She cleared her throat and sat up.

He reached in to the car and unsnapped her seat belt. “We’re home,” he murmured.

Their eyes met, and his wolf let loose a howl. He had to push his beast down to keep it from tearing through his skin and making its way out.

“When did you drop off my parents?” she asked, with a smile.

“Not too long ago. You were snoring so loud I thought it was best—”

“I don’t snore!” she exclaimed, batting at him with her hand. He grinned, knowing it had been a long-running joke between the two of them. “I don’t know how many times I’ve told you I don’t snore.”

They both paused once the words left her lips. Her eyes widened.

She remembered.

“Baby, you remember that?” he whispered, turning her body toward him.

Her face grew serious as she tried to concentrate, but then her shoulders slumped.

“I remember you always making that joke, but when I try to recall things around it, my mind just goes blank.” Defeat was written on her face.

“Come. Let’s get you in the house. You’ve had a long day.” He pulled her out of the truck and cradled her in his arms.

“I may not have my memory, but I can walk.”

She snuggled against him while he turned and kicked his door shut. He held back a chuckle at her feeble attempt to protest at him carrying her.

“Humor me.”

She may not have much of her memory, but her wolf certainly recognized him and his animal. He could feel her wolf close to the surface. His ached to go to hers and nuzzle the crook of her neck.

He walked up the stairs to the back of his house. Memories of times before when he’d done this same thing rose to the surface. After losing her, he’d never thought he’d be able to do it again. He breathed in her scent, having had it memorized.

She was where she was supposed to be, and no other wolf would take this from him. He entered through the back door that led to the kitchen. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and his wolf was satisfied.

His cock wasn’t.

It wouldn’t be satisfied until he was balls deep inside Damara.

He quickened his pace, carrying her through the house and up the stairs. He paused outside the master suite and looked down at her. Without a word, he was asking her if she would spend the night with him. If she opposed, then he would settle her in one of the guest rooms. She reached up with her small hand and cupped the side of his face.

“Is this the room that would be ours?” she breathed.

He nodded, unable to speak. He watched her eyes turn to the door before coming back to his.

Her plump lips turned up into her beautiful smile. “What are you waiting for?”
