“Damara has returned.”

She gave a shy smile and waved with all eyes turning in her direction.

“When is the mating ceremony?” a voice yelled out.

The smile slowly faded from Gavin’s lips as his eyes connected with Damara. He quickly glanced back at the crowd, not wanting her to see the disappointment in his eyes.

Would they officially mate?

“She has just returned to us. Let’s bask in the glory that she is back among us,” he replied, cutting the talk short. “Now let’s shift and prepare for our monthly run.”

The crowd began to disperse as they moved around to prepare for the shift.

“I’m sorry.” Damara appeared at his side.

He turned to find her wide eyes on him.

“What are you apologizing for?” he asked, pulling her to him. He couldn’t keep his hands off her.

“Not having my memory. Us not getting mated like we were supposed to,” she murmured, bracing her hand against his chest.

“It’s not your fault that your memory isn’t here. Hopefully, the physician you are going to see will have some suggestions on helping you get your memory back.”

She blew out a deep breath and looked around. “They really love you,” she noted.

He nodded, knowing that the feeling was mutual between him and the pack. They depended on him to be the leader they needed. The alpha was to protect and provide for his pack.

“Hey.” He grabbed her arm when she moved to walk away from him. He didn’t like the sense he got from her. He wasn’t sure what it was, but it left his wolf feeling uneasy. She turned back to him with surprise lining her face. “It will take time. You are worth it.”

And she was.

He watched her playfully pull away from him, walking backwards while her eyes smiled at him.

“I hope so.” She turned and strolled toward her parents.
