Damn shifter hearing.

“It’s time to go,” Spencer ordered, grabbing her arm.

She scurried from the ground and stood, taking off behind him.

“I guess it took Dreven knocking me out to get my memory back.”

Damara’s words fueled the beast. Just the thought of the other alpha laying a hand on Damara and marring her soft skin had a red veil falling over his eyes. His vision was clouded with the lust of killing the wolf in front of him.

Dreven was a large wolf, but he was no match for Gavin.

The dark-gray wolf jumped at him, but Gavin was able to bat him away with his front paw. He grappled with the wolf and landed on top of him. Dreven’s hind leg pushed him off, sending him sprawling on the ground.

His wolves remained surrounding them. He didn’t want to take any chance that the alpha would have a surprise waiting for them.

Now that Spencer had freed Damara and taken her deep in the woods, he could focus on the fight. His primary concern had been Damara. If he were not to make it, he wanted to ensure that Damara would be safe. He could trust Spencer to honor his request. His beta didn’t want to, but because it was Damara and Gavin was asking, his friend would abide by his request.

His chest rumbled as he met the maddening eyes of the wolf. There was no way he would lose this fight. Damara belonged to him.

He ignored the yips and growls behind him. Tension grew thick around them. A fight between alphas were always taken seriously. This would be a fight to the death. One alpha would not be walking away.

He could feel his wolves urging him on, to end the fight.

Dreven attacked again, plowing his body into Gavin, and they fell to the ground. The wolf snapped his fangs, trying to sink them into Gavin. His growls and snarls were directly near Gavin’s ear. Saliva dripped onto Gavin’s thick coat from the wolf trying to bite him.

Gavin swiped his paw at the wolf, connecting with his face. Gavin dug his claws deep into the Dreven’s snout. The gray wolf swung away, allowing Gavin to push forward with his hind legs and land on top.

It was the opening Gavin needed. He sunk his fangs deep into Dreven’s shoulder. Dreven released a piercing growl, attempting to kick Gavin off.

Gavin clamped down harder, copper liquid filing his mouth. Dreven pulled back, but Gavin bit harder still. His massive jaws would not be letting go, and the more the alpha tried to free himself, the more damage would occur.

Dreven twisted away and backed up. His frantic gaze roamed the campsite and came to the area where Damara had been seated.

Gavin released a curse.

A growl sounded from him, and he moved to race in the direction Damara had run with Spencer.

Kent, Evan, and Fynn slowly positioned their bodies in the path, sealing that exit off, forcing the alpha to face Gavin and continue the fight.

Dreven’s gaze narrowed on Gavin. He stalked toward him, and Gavin moved forward.

It was time to end this fight.

He had a mate he needed to get to.

He rushed Dreven, their bodies slamming into each other. Gavin didn’t waste any time, wrestling and rolling his body so he landed on top.

His animal had already tasted Dreven’s blood and wanted more. Dreven tried to fight to get him off, but he was slowly tiring, and Gavin was taking advantage of it. Something shifted off in the distance, and Dreven’s eyes to flicked in that direction.

It was all Gavin needed.

He moved in for the kill.

He sunk his fangs deep into the fur of the alpha, connecting with his neck. Dreven’s howl echoed in the air as Gavin clamped down even harder. Thick, coppery blood flooded his mouth.

But it wasn’t enough.
