“Someone has their eyes on you.” Kizzie giggled, leaning into Damara.

They sat together at a table watching the crowd of people mingle.

“What are you talking about?” She laughed. A chill snuck down her spine at the feeling of eyes on her. She tucked her hair behind her ear and glanced around the party innocently.

It was a warm summer day, and the sun was high. She took her time looking around at the partygoers. This year’s turnout was large. She had missed the last few years since she had been in college. With her having newly graduated, her parents felt it would be best for her to attend this year.

Her gaze met the dark-brown eyes of a handsome man, leaning against large maple tree, and she froze. She took the time to openly study him, since he made no motions to hide his assessment of her. His hair was kept cut close to his head. His deep-brown skin was flawless. Her gaze traveled down farther, finding him to be muscular. His t-shirt did nothing to hide the hard planes of his chest or the ridges in his stomach.

Her heart raced with her perusal. He dripped sexiness, and she and her wolf were attracted to him. Her gaze made its way back up, and she was hit with the intensity of his stare.

Her breath caught in her throat at the need in his eyes.

He wanted her.

Gavin Greene.

According to her mother, he was the son of the Golden Moon pack’s alpha.

Tonight was the traditional mating call ceremony where neighboring packs gathered to allow their members to mingle in hopes wolves would find their fated mates. When she’d arrived, she’d shifted and walked around, allowing her wolf to come to the forefront in search of her mate. The minute her wolf had scented Gavin, she knew deep down that he was for her.

“You know he’s had eyes on you since you first arrived.” Kizzie rolled hers and leaned forward, propping her chin on her fist. “So are you going to go over there and talk to him, or do I have to go get him?”

“No!” Damara grabbed her friend’s arm. “Just wait a second. I’m not sure what I would even say to him.”

Panic filled her chest as she thought of going over to speak to the devilishly handsome man.

“How about ‘hello’?” Kizzie scoffed.

“And then what?” Damara’s voice ended on squeak. She truly didn’t know how to approach a man. She’d have to admit she was always used to them making the first move.

“I don’t know, introduce yourself. I’m sure he’ll take it from there.”

“But what if I make a fool of myself?” she asked, biting her lip. He was the future alpha. She was just a regular wolf from one town over.

Who would have thought she’d come to her first mating call ceremony and stumble upon a man who had her aroused and they had yet to speak one word to each other?

“Well, you are going to soon find out. He’s on his way over here.”

Damara turned her head, and indeed her friend was right. A small smile played on his lips as he approached her. Her heart raced while her wolf pushed forward, and she stood from her chair.

“I hope you don’t mind me interrupting you two beautiful women.” Gavin’s deep voice washed over her.

She briefly closed her eyes, loving the sound of his baritone. She breathed in and caught his scent. It was addictive. She wanted to get closer to him and press her nose into the crook of his neck to get more of it. Her knees grew weak. Her eyes flashed open and met his.

“It’s no bother,” she said, finally able to find her voice. Now that he was standing in front of her, she realized how much taller than her he was. She had to tip her head back so she could meet eyes.

Kizzie stood from her chair with a wide grin on her lips and moved away from the table.

“I’ll be back,” Kizzie called out over her shoulder and walked away.

If Damara could shoot daggers at her friend’s back with her eyes, she would have.

“Hi, I’m Gavin Greene.” He held out his hand.

She turned back to him with a small smile. “I’m Damara Jackson.” She slipped her smaller hand in his large one.

His engulfed hers as he closed his fingers around it. An electric current zipped up her arm, and she gasped. His grip on her hand tightened.
