Logan just laughs, and honestly, I’m not mad. Logan hated Jeff, and the feeling was mutual. I don’t think in the year I dated him that we ever hung out or went on any sort of double date. So seeing these two together, even if it comes with teasing at my expense, is well worth it.
“I just want Grayson to know where he stands,” Logan says.
“And I just want my husband to get everything ready for the ball drop,” Maeve says, pulling him away, and giving me a wink to go with it. “Let’s go get the champagne ready.”
Grayson and I share a laugh as Maeve and Logan head to the kitchen.
“So….”
I look up into his playful eyes. “So what?”
“How was I different?”
I let out a groan, but notice that the snow is starting to fall outside. “Come out with me?”
Grayson doesn’t even have to say yes before we walk together onto Logan’s expansive back patio. And because it’s Nashville in December, the chill isn’t too bad, despite the light snow, especially considering the weather the state had over the past week. But that doesn’t stop Grayson for wrapping his arms around me to keep me warm.
I’m definitely not complaining.
“I told Logan about you after our first night together.”
I can’t see him, but I can feel Grayson smiling. “You did?”
Yup. And not just a smile. A shit-eating grin. “Well, I would’ve had to eventually, because he got a notification about the charge for his room at the Omni. But I told him before that.”
“What did you tell him?”
I turn around, wanting to see him for this confession. “It wasn’t as much as what I told him. It was what I called you.”
“And what was that?”
“Grayson.”
This seems to confuse him. “My name? Am I missing something?”
I shake my head. “Ever since I’ve known Logan, whenever I started seeing someone, he didn’t get to know their name until it was serious. Needless to say, he knows exactly who Sweaty Hands McGee is, but he doesn’t know that his name was actually Dan.”
“And I didn’t get a nickname?”
I shake my head. “I called you Grayson without even thinking twice about it. That’s when Logan knew. And really, so did I. Even if it took me a while to admit it.”
The smile on his face warms my entire body as he takes my chin in his fingers, bringing me to him for a kiss that could melt the snow around us.
We still have a lot to figure out. Grayson hasn’t talked to his boss since he’s returned, so his promotion might or might not happen. I might go to New York. I might stay here. Same with him. But what we do know is that whatever happens, we’re going to do it together.
Because this is different. This is special. And both of us are smart enough to know that you don’t throw that way.
“It’s time!”
Logan’s voice carries out to the patio, signaling for us to come back inside. We each grab a flute of champagne and accept a silly New Year’s hat that Jayce is handing out, as we start the final countdown.
“Ten! Nine!”
Grayson spins me around to his front.
“Here’s to the best year yet.”
I hold up my glass to clink with his. “You and me.”
