A gasp gets caught in my throat as he thrusts upward. “Not here. We have to get back.”

“Nonsense. I’ve got all the time in the world.”

“We’re on the clock.” My eyes roll back when his fingers begin to strum the sensitive nerve, spurring me to ride him harder.

Clenching around him, I milk his cock, sliding slowly up until barely the tip remains inside of me, then slowly pressing down until I reach the hilt.

“Fuck, Gen. I love when you do that.” He works my clit harder, rolling it beneath two fingers as he applies pressure.

My body convulses. “Lincoln, I’m going to come.”

Sucking hard on my neck, he licks it gently after. “Do it, baby. Let the hospital hear how sexy you sound when you’re coming on my cock.”

Oh my God.

His words are my undoing. My vision blurs, and a chat of illicit curses tumble from my lips. Trembling, the wave of pleasure hits continuously, crashing into me as it takes me higher.

I’m not sure I’ll ever come down.

I’m not sure I want to.

I still in Lincoln’s arms, our heavy breaths mingling for several heavy seconds. My chest is tight, and despite the euphoria my body’s humming with, I’m finding it hard to breathe.

Lincoln’s hands cup either side of my face, tilting me to look at him. “What’s wrong?” His voice is filled with concern as he uses his thumbs to wipe away tears I didn’t realize I had. “Gen, look at me.”

An onslaught of emotions swirls through me, clouding my mind even more so than it already is.

How do I explain to him that even though we just had mind-blowing sex in the on-call room, all I can think about is this ending.

I squeeze my eyes shut.

“Gen,” he consoles, wiping my tears as he leans forward and gently kisses my temple.

“This is too good to be true,” I finally mutter, hiccupping between the half-whispered words.

His head shakes with vigor. “It’s not.”

“Itis.”

Wrapping his arms around my middle, he holds me close. “I know this is just the beginning of something for us, but I can say this with certainty. I am not a man who’s ever wanted to be in a relationship before. I’ve been content being on my own, enjoying the occasional fling. No one has ever made me wantmore.” He dips his head, catching my gaze. “Youmake me want more, Gen. I know this is crazy because it is happening so quickly, but in a sense it’s also been a slow moving process between us. Now we’re just making up for lost time.”

“Do you mean that?” I hate how heavily the doubt weighs on my chest, and resent the neediness in my tone.

“I have no idea what the future holds—for us, or in general. We both know that anything can change in a single heartbeat, but that doesn’t negate how I feel or what I want. As long as we’re on the same page, I won’t let anything stand in our way.”

Another tear rolls down my cheek that he chases with a kiss.

“Let me make you mine, Gen. Be my girlfriend.”

I’m nodding when he grabs my chin, tilting my head up to press his lips softly against mine.

And this time, when he puts my mind at ease, he does it with his body and soul, letting the words he’s already spoken swirl between us until they embed themselves in my heart.

Chapter Fifteen

New Year’s Eve

If you’d asked me six days ago what I was doing for New Year’s Eve, I would have told you absolutely nothing.
