Chapter 41: Blaze
I dropped by Molly’s place in the morning on the way to pick up Dylan. I knew she’d be up early, despite the amount of alcohol she’d drunk. That old girl really knew how to party. I grinned. I could imagine Daisy partying like that in our old age. My frustrations from last night were forgotten as I seized the opportunity to speak to her.
I frowned a little at the lack of a car in the driveway, but I shrugged it off. Maybe someone else drove Daisy down, or her car was in the garage.
I walked into the house with a quick knock on the door. “Hey Molly, how’s the head?” I yelled.
“Not now, Blaze,” I heard her snap angrily.
Woah, hangovers do not suit her.I guess it was a blessing she didn’t let loose before.
“Did you get some Tylenol?” I asked, tracking her voice to the kitchen.
“Yes, Daisy got me some before she left,” Molly groaned, her head in her hands.
I frowned. “She’s gone already?” Dammit, I missed her again.
“Yes Blaze, and I have to say, you may have really fucked up.” She lifted her head to stare bleary eyed at me. “That girl that was sitting next to Daisy at the service, did you recognize her?” she asked.
I looked suspiciously at Molly. Was she joining the cheater bandwagon?
“Not really? Am I supposed to?”
“Daisy says she caught the both of you together in one of the town bars.”
My face drained. That was that girl?! I’d picked her because she kinda reminded me of Daisy, except she had green eyes instead of Daisy’s blue. She’d even been willing enough that she reminded me of Delilah, not Dani the crazy bitch, the alter ego.
Molly hid her face back in her hands as she delivered the next bombshell.
“I hope you wrapped it up well, because not only is that girl Matchstick’s only mistake, that I’ve discovered. She’s also your Aunt Lacey’s daughter.”
Oh shit.I felt the blood drain away from my face. My aunt ran away years ago, and Mom was still sore about that. She had a daughter?! A daughter who I screwed in a club a couple of times these past two months. And what did she mean byMatchstick’s mistake?
“I never got in,” I mumbled, panicking. It didn’t count that time. Daisy interrupted before things got serious.
“Thank God for small mercies.” Molly dropped her hands, and pointed to the other plate with a sigh.
“Daisy’s not going to eat that, you might as well.”
I pulled the plate over in a daze and cleared my throat. “Um, what did you mean by that girl being Matchstick’s mistake?”
Molly paused and squinted at me. “Surely you saw the resemblance?” she said bluntly. I swallowed and kept my eyes on the food as I heard Molly huff in disgust. “That girl is his daughter. I gave him a choice when we found out that Lacey was pregnant. He would have to chooseonefamily. Daisy and I, or Lacey and that girl. He dragged it out until she was born, and came back to me. He chose me and my daughter, not her and hers. But I insisted he have a vasectomy. I wasn’t going to go through that again.”
Molly stood up and swiped the plate from under my nose. “And now we’ll never speak of it again. And I don’t want to ever see that girl again. She doesn’t belong here. He chose me, not her.”
I nodded, unease writhing in my gut. “Thanks for breakfast, Molly. I’d better go.”
She turned and smiled, back to her old self. “My pleasure, Blaze. Now, you go catch up with Daisy. I’m sure she’s not far away. That car of hers looked to be on its last legs.” She shooed me away and turned back to the dishes.

Chapter 42: Daisy
I had to pull over. It was getting too dangerous. I couldn’t see through the tears. I couldn’t stop the sobbing. Mom’s words were bouncing around in my head, destroying me. Not only did she dismiss me as nothing to my Dad because I was female, but what she said about BJ.
I couldn’t breathe.
