Her typing stops and I start to wonder if Kalli’s done texting. But then the three bubbles reappear. Soon her text pops up, solidifying her best friend status.

Kalli

Be there in 20.

She doesn’t even know if Tyler can meet me, yet she’s already coming over. She knows about the letters because I sent her screenshots after I read them. I’m so lucky to have someone like her in my corner. Even if Ty isn’t able to see me, I know she’ll simply sit with me and have a girls’ night in.

Now I sit on my bed and stare at another text thread, contemplating what I should do.

I’m full of so many different emotions when it comes to Tyler. I have every reason to be confused when it comes to him. I’ve tried for so long to find someone else to move on with, and it has never felt right. What if Tyler is the person I’m supposed to be with, and I keep pushing this thing between us away?

I finally start typing, and I press send before I back out of it and run away.

Can you come pick me up?

Tyler

On my way.

I guess I have to face this once and for all.

CHAPTER 37

Tyler

Standingin front of Indiana’s door, I’m acutely aware this is my final chance with her. With the way my hands are shaking in anticipation of seeing her, I’m surprised I was able to ride my motorcycle here. I called Malloy to give me a pep talk on my way over.

Not sure what he gave could be considered pep. It was more like a lecture. Then Baylee snatched the phone and told me not to “fuck things up”—her words, not mine. She stated Malloy was moping around because I was sad. Apparently, I was throwing her husband off. That made me laugh. The guy is way too sensitive.

The minute I hung up, the nerves and tension returned. I thought it was our interaction at the pizza place that had her calling me. But Malloy admitted he handed off my letters earlier today. I assume that’s why I’ve been asked to come by.

I don’t want her to think I omitted those letters as a form of lying; that’s not the case. I just thought she’d either hear me out and accept me back, or not. It felt desperate to start throwing more letters in her face after she asked me to leave.

I’m about to ring the bell when Kalli swings the door open.

“Uh, hey, Kalli. I wasn’t expecting you.”

Kalli gives me a mischievous smile. “Oh, I know. Listen, Indy’s grabbing a jacket. I came by to watch Noah while you two get out of here.”

“Thanks.” I move my hands through my hair.

“You got this, Tyler. You’ve got to be honest with her, got it?” She looks me straight in the eyes. “I’m rooting for you.”

I smile shyly. “I appreciate that.”

“Tyler, hey.” Indy makes her way to the front door, and I can’t help the way my heart squeezes at the sight of her.

“Hi, Indy.” I smile at her. I see a small blush paint her cheeks.

Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail, with a few strands falling down around her cheeks. Her face is clear of makeup, unlike earlier tonight at the restaurant. Her lips are fucking kissable, but I keep my distance, waiting at the stoop. I felt possessive earlier, but now I let the nerves get the best of me.

“Okay, you two. Out you go.” Kalli pushes Indy out the door.

“Kalli!” Indy whisper-yells.

“I’m not getting any younger. Go, please.” She gives Indy a saccharine smile, then closes the door.

I can’t help the laugh that escapes while Indy looks at her front door that is now closed behind us. Bringing her gaze toward me, she seems a bit uncomfortable over what to do next.
