‘What are you doing?’ she asked, her pulse suddenly rocketing.

His hands withdrew immediately, his expression crestfallen. ‘Shit, sorry. I, er… I thought if I touched your head I might get a visual download.’

Taking his hands, she placed his fingers on her temples, then closed her eyes.

With the loss of her sight, her other senses ramped up. Leo didn’t speak, but she heard the hitch of his breath, felt the touch of his fingertips. Her skin buzzed with awareness of him, electricity raising every hair on her body and making her shiver. She inhaled deeper, trying to breathe him in.

Then his hands withdrew. ‘I… I don’t know,’ he said, his voice hesitant.

She opened her eyes. ‘I don’t know either. I can’t remember who I drew.’

He laughed, his expression once again cocky and carefree. ‘Well, that explains everything! Why didn’t you say? I thought my powers had deserted me.’

She grinned. ‘I like to keep you on your toes.’

He lifted the window to reveal a picture of his father, dressed as Santa. ‘Love it! Now open yours whilst I get the movie started.’

‘Ooh! Bailey’s! Yummy!’ Ella exclaimed as she opened the window, pulling out the tiny bottle and the two Baci.

‘Today is a double chocolate day,’ Leo replied, jumping back onto the bed with the remote.

‘Quadruple if you count the chocolate-filled dates and rocky road.’

‘Yep. We’re going to be off our heads in about ten minutes.’

He started the movie and settled back into the mountain of pillows next to Ella. She passed him a chocolate and he opened it, discarding the wrapper with the motto about love to the bed next to him.

See! If he wanted anything more than friendship, he would have read it out!

Opening her one, she put the motto in her pocket to read later, and focused on the film.

An hourand twenty-five minutes later, after having sung all the songs and said their favourite lines out loud, Leo glanced at his watch.

‘It’s only just gone eight. Another movie?’

Ella nodded. She was exhausted, but wanted to prolong the evening until she couldn’t keep her eyes open any longer. Whenever she was with Leo, life wasn’t just better, it was perfect.

He cued upThe Family Man, and she rested her head back. The film was one of her favourite Christmas movies, but now she saw it in a whole new light. What would her life have looked like if she’d got together with Leo instead of Zach when they were at school?

But he didn’t like you then. He encouraged you to date Zach.

She blinked, as if it would reset her thoughts, which were caught in a loop. Her eyelids were heavy, and it was getting difficult to keep them open. Maybe she could let them close and just listen to the film? She knew it so well she didn’t need the images. She could let it play out in her mind.

Pleasure movedthrough Ella’s veins like late-summer honey; thick and sweet. Leo was gazing down at her, his golden hair a halo of light, his bright blue eyes blazing.

‘Ella,’ he murmured, the sound rippling across her skin like butterfly kisses.

Her fingers ran down his naked torso. ‘Leo.’

Leaning down, he dipped his tongue into the hollow at the base of her throat, then kissed his way up to her lips, whispering her name again.

Arching up to him, she held his head, pulling him closer. Desire burned in her chest, flaring as her tongue met his. She was writhing underneath him, desperate to have him inside her.

‘Ella.’ Her name on his lips amplified every sensation.

She was panting now, clawing at his trousers to get them off. ‘Leo!’

‘Ella.’
