Ella woke from a dream about a swarm of bees pulling Santa’s sleigh and groggily reached for her phone.
Leo: Are you awake yet?
Leo: Are you awake yet?
Leo: Are you awake yet?
Leo: I know your phone’s set to vibrate and is right by your bed because we discussed this last night
Leo: In case the bed was so comfy you didn’t want to wake up
Ella glanced at the time.Already eight o’clock. Despite the stresses of Zach, her dad and the panto, she’d never slept better. The only night she’d had a deeper sleep was the one when Leo had shared her bed over a week ago.
Leo: Come on, Princess Ella. Wakey-wakey, rise and shine!
Leo: Do you really want me to get Dad’s hunting horn?
Leo: Or a set of bagpipes? I’m positive he’s got some stashed somewhere
Leo: Okay. I’m going to take a shower and sing really loudly and see if that does the trick
Leo: Did it work?
Leo: Seriously? Are you STILL asleep???
Leo: Come
Leo: on
Leo: Ella!
Leo: Wake
Leo: Up!!!
Ella: You made me dream that bees were pulling Santa’s sleigh
Leo: She stirs!
Leo: Can I come in now?
Ella: Give me five
Leo: Seconds?
Ella rolled out of bed and drew the curtains. Even though the winter sun had just risen, it was hidden behind thick grey clouds and the sky was dark.
Ella: I need to make myself presentable
Leo: You’re a princess. You’re always presentable
Ella: Hardly
Leo: You’re the most beautiful woman I know
Her heart skipped a beat. He’s your friend! Don’t make things weird with him!
Messing up her hair, she took the most unflattering selfie she could and sent it to him.
