Steve stood. ‘Right. Where’s the vicar? Where’s my dress? This wedding is on, on, on!’ he cried, walking away from the chair and leaving a false leg behind with the glass slipper attached.

‘And now it’s off, off, off!’ Arthur crowed.

Scott picked up the false leg and removed the slipper. ‘You two don’t have a leg to stand on. Now tell us. Are there any other eligible young women in the house?’

‘Um…’ Libby began.

‘Yes, Buttons?’ Scott asked.

Arthur and Steve stared pointedly at Libby and dragged their fingers across their throats.

Libby twisted her hands in the sides of her trousers as she gazed at the audience. ‘If I tell the prince about Cinderella, then I’ll never have a chance with her! What should I do, girls and boys?’

‘Tell him!’ the kids in the audience screamed.

‘What was that? You want me tosmellhim?’

‘No! Tell him!’

‘Oh, alright,’ Libby’s shoulders sagged. ‘I love Cinderella so much that I won’t stand in the way of her happiness.’ She faced Leo and Scott. ‘Your highness, there is another fair maiden in this house. Her name is Cinderella, but I don’t know where she is!’

‘Do either ofyouknow where she is?’ Scott asked Arthur and Steve.

Arthur pouted. ‘Don’t know nuffink!’

‘Me too,’ Steve added. ‘I definitely don’t know we locked her in the cellar.’

Leo dashed to the cellar door, but it didn’t budge. ‘It’s locked!’

‘Who’s got the key?’ Scott asked.

Arthur held the key up, then put it down the front of his dress. ‘You want it? You’re going to have to come and get it!’

Leo and Scott looked at each other in horror.

‘After you,’ Leo said to Scott.

‘No, I insist,’ Scott replied. ‘After you.’

As they argued, Ella tiptoed behind the back flat to stand behind the cellar door.

There was a puff of dry ice and the lights flashed as Dervla appeared on stage.

‘Who are you?’ Arthur asked. ‘Come to fix the electric, have you? It’s on the fritz.’

‘I’m not a sparkie, I’m Mistress Cakes, Fairy godmother to Cinderella,’ Dervla replied. ‘And with my magic you don’t need a key, to save Cinders from the cellar!’

The lights flashed again and Dervla opened the door and led Ella onto the stage.

‘Princess Incognito!’ Leo raced forward to take her hands.

‘Prince Charming!’

‘The slipper!’ Scott said. ‘We must check if it fits!’ He looked around. ‘Where is it?’

‘You meanthisslipper?’ Arthur held it aloft.

‘Yes! Give it to me!’ Scott jumped, trying to reach it.
