‘I don’t think anything has ever felt so right,’ she said quietly.

‘I know,’ Rory replied. ‘It feels like everything that’s gone before in my life was just a foreword.’ He pulled her closer and kissed the top of her head. ‘You’re my story.’

She nuzzled his neck. ‘With a guaranteed happy ending.’

He swept her into his arms and started for the cabin. ‘Just one? I intend on giving you multiple happy endings tonight.’

She giggled as he unlocked the door and carried her inside.

Zoe gasped. ‘Oh, Rory!’

Duncan and Fiona had been up earlier to refill the Rayburn stove with wood and check on Basil, but they had also decorated the inside of the cabin with fairy lights and scattered rose petals on the bed.

‘Do you like it?’ he asked, as he gently set her down.

‘Oh my god, this wasyouridea?’

‘There’s a romantic in me somewhere,’ he replied, taking her coat from her shoulders.

She threw her arms around him. ‘You’re the most romantic man-bear in the whole of the Highlands.’

His smile made her toes tingle.

He brought his mouth to her ear. ‘Hear that?’ he whispered.

She frowned. ‘I can’t hear anything.’

‘Exactly,’ he murmured, moving her hair so he could kiss her neck. ‘Isn’t it perfect?’

She sighed with contentment. It truly was.

‘Happy wedding, husband,’ she said, pulling him closer.

‘Happy wedding, wife,’ he growled before capturing her lips in a blistering kiss.

EPILOGUE

Zoe awoke the next morning, sunlight streaming through the cabin windows.

Rory was boiling a kettle on the Rayburn, still dressed in his kilt and white shirt from the previous night.

‘What time is it?’ she managed to say, her voice croaky.

He turned and grinned at her. ‘Good morning, wife. It’s nearly eleven. I don’t think I’ve ever slept that much before.’

‘We should get married more often.’

He pulled a face. ‘You want to go through all that again?’

She giggled. ‘Only the good parts.’

‘The tiara fitting?’ he asked, pouring a mug of tea. ‘Or the wedding night?’

Her cheeks heated. ‘Both occasions were pretty spectacular. But your singing was also a highlight.’

He raised his eyebrows. ‘Care for a repeat performance?’

She snorted. ‘No, ta.’
