Zoe held her breath, however Valentina didn’t miss a beat.

‘Just north, from Carron.’

‘OMG, my mum was from Carronshire! Did you go to Larbert High?’

‘Yes!’ she replied as if overjoyed to discover their mutual connection to a place Zoe was one hundred per cent sure Valentina had never visited.

‘I can’t wait to tell Mum! Although you wouldn’t have been there at the same time as you’re too young.’

Valentina nodded, a disappointed look on her face. ‘Probably. I’m only twenty-six.’

Fiona snorted as Valentina lost seven years in one sentence.

‘I’d like garlic bread, tagliatelle carbonara to start, pepperoni pizza for the main, dough balls on the side, and tiramisu,’ said Zoe quickly.

Valentina mouthed ‘Thank you’ at her as the waiter was distracted and the conversation moved on.

It wasdark by the time they left the restaurant, carb loaded and ready for action. Zoe’s cheeks hurt from laughing so much and she’d completely forgotten about the promise of a stripper until they entered a private bar at the back of a club and were introduced to their mixologist, Steve. Wearing an open-necked black shirt with a grey waistcoat over the top, tight black jeans and a killer smile, he was the kind of man who knew exactly the effect he had on most women.

‘Ladies,’ he said, his voice as smooth as his looks. ‘Ready to make some magic?’

‘Holy shit,’ Valentina murmured, her Falkirk accent slipping away.

Fiona plonked Zoe’s penis crown back on her head and pushed her forward.

‘Our hen wants Sex on the Beach to start.’

Steve raised an eyebrow as he gave Zoe a blatant once over.

‘Have you ever had Creamy Sex on the Beach?’

Zoe’s brain froze.

‘She definitely hasn’t,’ said Sam. ‘But she does like a Banana Hammock. Can you show her one?’

Steve winked. ‘I can do everything.’

‘I bet you bloody can,’ murmured Fiona.

Steve stared at Zoe as if she were a new cocktail he wanted to try.

‘You ready for some action?’ he asked, unbuttoning his waistcoat.

‘Stop taking your clothes off!’ she yelled.

He paused.

‘I’m sure your banana is simply marvellous, but I don’t want to see it please,’ she continued. ‘Whatever my friends have paid you to take it all off, I will pay you double to keep it all on.’ She fumbled in her bag for her purse.

‘Zoe—’ Fiona began.

‘Do you take cards?’ she interrupted, thrusting her wallet at him.

‘Zoe! Steve is not the stripper!’ said Fiona, pulling Zoe’s hand back.

‘Oh.’Oh shit.

Luckily Steve was grinning. ‘I’ve never taken my clothes off at work before,’ he began, ‘but there’s a first time for everything.’
