“Marriage isn’t about giving everything, sweetheart. It’s about giving what you can and letting your partner pick up the slack. Teamwork.”

“You’ll make a good team someday, East.”

I don’t know what comes over me, but suddenly, this seems like the best idea I’ve ever had. “Be my teammate, Locket. Tonight. Be mine. Give me what you can, and I’ll handle the rest.”

“What?” She laughs. “You’re not making any sense. Plus, in case you forgot, I get to be team captain. I already killed you on the court. Remember?” She runs her hands up and down her body like Vanna White—a reminder of why she’s dressed in hot pants and a see-through top.

Placing my hands on her thighs, I bring my face to hers. “Oh, I remember, sweetheart. Your ass in those shorts will be fodder for my showers for the foreseeable future. You can be the captain, Lexi. I just want to be on your team.”

“My team? You mean for tonight?” She pauses and narrows her eyes at me as a giggle escapes her pouty lips. “Are you trying to get in my pants again?”

Somewhere in the back of my head, a voice is yelling that this is a terrible fucking idea, but I drown it out. The longer I think about it, the more I know I want to marry her right here tonight. If that means I get in her pants again, I’m all for that, too.

“Yup. For tonight, tomorrow, whatever I can get. What do you say, Lexi? Wanna be a team?”

“I’m drunk.”

“Me too. But, this is a good idea. I know it is. Marry me. Be my team.”Just be mine.

“I can’t give you a future, East.”

“Then give me tonight. We’ll worry about the future tomorrow.”

“Get married. Here?”

“Yes. Right now.”

“And tomorrow we’ll go back to being friends?”

“Yup.”

Her laughter makes my heart feel lighter than it has in years.

“I don’t think that’s how it works.”

“It’s a good idea, Lex. I know it is.”

“You want to get married tonight. And be friends tomorrow?”

“You keep saying you can’t give me a future, so give me tonight. If tonight is all we have, let’s do it all.”

When our lips meet, I know she’s mine.

Chapter 21

Lexi

I’m dying. I must be. There’s no other explanation on the planet for why my head has a thousand-man marching band dancing in it. When I turn my head, the room spins, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be sick.Oh, fuck.

Standing, I make my way to the bathroom, but seeing my reflection, I wince. I’m splashing water on my face when I hear something. Is that … is someone snoring? Poking my head out into the bedroom, I freeze.

Who’s …

I sneak back into the bathroom as the events of last night come into focus. Playing basketball on the roof, dancing in the club, then sending Colton home in the car.Fuck, I hope he made it home. Rubbing my temples, I try to piece together the rest of the night. My lady bits are so freaking sore, so there’s no mistaking the fact that Easton and I had sex last night. Again. Double fuck.

That’s when I notice the giant, plastic ring on my finger, and I almost scream.

“And tomorrow we’ll go back to being friends?”
