Julia: Odd? Lanie, she is certifiable.

Lexi: It’s true. She will also be all up in your business while she’s here. I laugh because it will drive Preston nuts, but feel bad for you because you aren’t used to her.

Lanie: It’s best to just nod and smile with GG.

Julia: And set boundaries early on. That woman still calls me a lil’ hussy and throws condoms at me every chance she gets.

Emory: Good Lord. I feel like I should be scared.

Julia: A little fear is always a good thing around GG.

Lexi: (Eye roll emoji)

Lexi: She isn’t the devil.

Lanie: She’s just a little eccentric.

Lexi: Eccentric is a good word.

Julia: So is bat shit crazy!

Holy hell. For the third time tonight, I ask, What in God’s name did I just walk into?

Chapter 15

Preston

I’m beyond pissed, and the only person I can take it out on is my brother, East. So when I get him alone on the balcony, I dig in. “Why the fuck did you have to put GG right across the hall from my bedroom?”

“What are you talking about? You have met that woman, right? There is no putting her anywhere. She does whatever the hell she wants, whenever she wants,” Easton tells me flatly.

East and I are the closest in age, and like all brothers, we know how to push each other’s buttons. Needing to pick a fight to put all my conflicting emotions at bay, I pull out all the stops.

“What the hell is going on between you and Lexi? She has been through hell recently. The last thing she needs is some grumpy asshole all over her. I knew I should have sent her to Colton instead.”

“Fuck off, Pres. Nothing is going on. She is a pain in the ass, that’s all.”

“Why is that muscle in your jaw ticking then? You know that’s always been your tell.”

I am such an asshole.

“Oh yeah, what about you? That vein in your neck about exploded when mom called your ass out earlier.”

He’s not wrong.

“Whatever. Seriously, East, don’t be a pecker with Lexi. She’s been through enough shit already.”

“Why are you all over my jock tonight, Pres. What’s really going on with you?” he asks, getting in my face.

Just like we’re ten years old again, I shove him off of me, and before I know it, we are a tangle of limbs.

“Seriously, Preston? Get off each other, you morons,” I recognize the voice as a very pissed off Emory.

“Ooh, you’re in trouble with the missus now,” East chides.

With one last shove, I take a step back. “At least I have a missus, asshole.”

“Good, keep them away from me. That’s an anchor I’ll never be looking for.”
