“You explained the blood is a tattoo and then I got nosey. Curious, really. I saw your dagger tattoo under your neck, which annoyed you, and then I finally saw your face.”

“And you knew who I was,” he says matter-of-fact, like that ended the encounter.

“I did. My bestie at the time was obsessed with you, along with every other girl on the campus.”

He snickers and shakes his head, a cocky grin on his lips. “So you used the door as a way to talk to me?”

Anger heats my body more than the warm water. “No. I wasn’t trying to approach you. Like you said, I was shy. I wouldn’t dare. You weren’t my type.” I sneer. “Overly gelled hair and hot professor clothes that contradicted your tattoos. You reeked of money, danger, and mystery. I wouldn’t have gone near you.”

That cocky grin grows bigger, amusement dancing in his beautiful eyes.

If I didn’t love him so much, I might have smacked the look right off his face.

“Why did I give you a job working for me?”

His curiosity cools my anger. “You didn’t want to. Nathan brought it up.”

He locks his fingers together and leans his elbows on his knees. “Nathan was in the hallway with me?”

“No. I…approached you afterward, but only because my best friend forced me to. She wanted an invitation to your party so she could hook up with you.”

“And who is this best friend?”

“Harper.”

“Nathan’s Harper?”

“He met her through me. He joined us in the parking lot when I approached you.” Every time I admit Iapproachedhim, his lips quirk with that cocky grin. “Your car was parked next to mine. I was headed in that direction.”

More amusement flashes in his eyes. “I still can’t see myself inviting you to one of our parties.”

“You didn’t. Nathan did. I think he felt sorry for me. I got fired in a text in front of you both. It was embarrassing, and I kind of broke down a little. Ineededa job back then. Nathan saw my upset and told me you had a job available.”

He nods as if that makes all the sense in the world.

“You didn’t want to hire me. You were adamant about it, kept saying I wouldn’t fit in. It frustrated me, so I challenged you, which you seemed to like. That led to some teasing and more questions from me about the job. Nathan left for class, and I basically talked you into hiring me.”

His head goes back with a laugh. “I don’t believe that’s possible.”

Anger returns to me with another heated rush. “I can be very convincing when I want to be.”

“I’m not swayed easily.”

“You swayed to me easily enough.”

His smirk says he doesn’t buy it.

“You did. You taunted and teased and flirted with me. I didn’t realize it at the time, or even when you dared me to make you move that one night.”

“What night?”

“Nathan had a toga party. Some sleaze attacked me.”

His entire body stiffens. “Someone attacked you?”

“You stopped him before anything bad could happen and sent me to your room.”

“Did I beat the shit out of the guy?”
