“I know the scent. It’s my favorite.”
I lifted a hand, fingers stretched to his cheek.
“It reminds me of Bianca.”
My hand fell to the ground. I pushed off him and sat back. The dress puffed around me like a light purple parachute.
Caiden stood and reached a hand to me. “Come on, Lilac. I’ll help you up.”
The cloud began fading around the dance floor. I flopped my hand in his and pouted. “The name’s Lily,” I said, under my breath, “not Lilac.”
Caiden put a finger under my chin and lifted.
I recoiled slightly.
“I know your name, Lily. I was referring to your eyes. I’ve never seen that shade before. I like it.”
I smiled, taking the compliment. No matter how little, it was a start. Raysa was a genius.
A pair of long, pale arms encircled Caiden’s waist and Bianca kissed his cheek. Next, she turned his face toward her red lips. “My turn,” she said in a sultry voice I could never pull off.
He clasped his hands behind her back and molded her body to his, sandwiched so closely, I doubted a piece of floss would fit between them.
She ran her tongue across her bottom lip.
I glanced away.Kill me.
A disturbing thought shot through my mind and down to my heart like a guided missile. Seek and destroy. They’re probably doing it.I bit my inner lip, hoping the pain would distract me from the ache in my heart. The taste of copper filled my mouth. I could feel a drip ooze over my lower lip, but I didn’t bother to wipe it away.
“You’re bleeding,” Caiden said with surprise and pointed at my mouth.
I didn’t move. I couldn’t, frozen by the thought of Bianca making love to the only guy I wanted to be with in that way.
Caiden swiped his finger up my chin. He stared at the blood coating the tip of his finger and moved it closer to his mouth. His tongue darted out and he licked it.
Huh?
Bianca’s eyes spread wide. Mine did, too.
At our shocked expressions, he said, “I don’t know why I did that.”
Bianca’s gaze heated, and Caiden’s cheeks turned pink.
“Let’s go.” She took his hand and led him away.
He didn’t protest or look back.

Pink Bubbly, A Broken Heart, And The King Of Death
Thank God for Laken and his ability to think quickly. He materialized before me, holding two flutes of pink bubbly.
“Remember this?” He smirked. “I’ve go’ a table reserved near the maze, a box of cupcakes ready to be gambled or eaten, and cards in my pocket. You ready for some fun, lass?”
I took the glass, chugged the drink, and let Laken guide me away. Tucked safely under his brawny arm, I felt light before we reached the table.
“Another, please,” I told him, ignoring the pestering voice in the back of my head.Drowning your sorrows in magically laced drinks and treats won’t solve your problems.I dulled the nagging thought with a cupcake and sat at the table.
