Bianca pinned me with a searing glare.

With reluctance, I slid to the edge of the bed.

Caiden hooked his arm around my waist and tugged me back. “Not you, Lilypad. You’re staying with me.” He kissed my forehead.

My eyes stayed glued on Bianca.

She stared with a look that promised death. “I believe you and Raysa have unfinished business in the kitchen,” she said. “You should go to her.Now.”

I didn’t look at Caiden. I couldn’t. I tried to move from his arms.

They tightened around my waist. “Stay. Raysa will understand that I can’t let you go. Not yet.” He smiled and pressed his forehead to mine. He stroked a tendril of my hair and sighed as if we were the only two in the room.

Bianca cleared her throat, which sounded more like a growl.

“Give us a minute, Bianca.” Caiden spoke to her without moving from me. The tip of his nose touched mine and his hand cupped my cheek. He pulled me in for another kiss. My head spun from the intensity and my body tingled.

Had he forgotten Bianca was in the room? Or did he simply not care?

The bed shook. Still kissing my lips, Caiden didn’t seem to notice. It was as if he couldn’t get enough of me. It was wonderful.

After a second shake of the mattress, he leaned away, but only enough to say my name. “Lily,” he breathed, like a sweet lullaby.

My insides melted.

He lay back, bringing me down on top of him. His fingers tangled in my hair. I wanted to lose myself in his touch, escape for a moment to a place where only he and I existed.

I would have, if I hadn’t felt Bianca’s heavy glare.

Something tugged at my hair, and then I was ripped from Caiden’s arms.

Bianca flung me from the bed.

I crashed onto the wood floors and rolled to a stop.

“Out. Now!” she screamed, leaning over me.

Appearing at my side, Caiden lifted me to my feet and stepped between us, facing Bianca. “Touch her again and you will be sorry.”

Bianca leaned away, her cheeks crimson, her eyes shooting daggers at me.

“What in the hell is wrong with you, Bianca?” Caiden said, his posture stiff and protective.

“It’s okay.” I put my hand on his arm, my fingers digging into his skin. How do I let him go?My throat tightened as I forced out words I didn’t want to say. “She’s right. I shouldn’t keep Raysa waiting.”

He spun and pulled me close with a snarling sigh. “If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t let you go. But I suspect I owe Raysa as much as I do you and Bianca.”

He cupped my face, his gaze intense and filled with love. “For some reason I don’t want to let you go, not even for a second.” One corner of his mouth lifted. “When you get back, I need to remind you of something. Don’t be long. Or I’ll have to come find you.” He lifted my chin and kissed me as tears spilled from my eyes.

His lips were warm and soft, tasting of cotton candy and salt.

He moved his kiss to my cheek. “Why the tears?” He pulled away, his thumb sweeping a few strays.

I wanted to say, “Because I love you but gave you up to save your life. And after this, you won’t be with me, love me, or even know me.”

Bianca stepped close behind him. She fixed her narrowed eyes on me and mouthed, “Go.”

I gripped Caiden’s shirt in my fists and met his affectionate gaze. “I lov—”
